You are right to be suspicious of this kind of scheme.
I investigated them quite closely as it does - on the face of it - sound like a great deal.
Upon further investigation though, I read that the traffic comes from pop-unders. So it is counted as a 'visitor' even if they just glance at your site for a split-second as they rush to close the window.
I think a lot of it is probably also generated from 'malware' that infects people's browsers as well. I decided I wouldn't want to touch it.
You can't really go wrong with Google's AdWords programme. You are able to target exactly the search terms people are searching for and you only pay for real visitors coming to your site.
