Dear Geb
Flights go in and out of Bodrum 12 months of the year. Also, FYİ Didim (Altinkum) is situated between 2 airports (Bodrum and İzmir) so is extremely well serviced. Transfer prices vary depending who you use and whether you have a private or communal transfer - from £7.50 to £60 - so its worth shopping around.
Check out the Daily Mail 28.12.07 - p88, article entitled 'The next big thing?' in overseas property and Turkey is cited as the 'emerging star' of the 2008 overseas property markets - with a special mention for Altinkum as the place to grab a bargain.
Of course, this article is purely the paper opinion but you do seem anti the area, so İ thought İ'd raise this counter opinion - keep your eyes and ears open - Altinkum and the Didim area as a whole are on the way to a higher status. The area is ripe for investors who shop sensibly: Johnsouthcombe says he has bought in MaviŞehir - which isn't Altinkum but is a quiet sleepy authentic resort within Didim but a 20 minute bus ride from Altinkum. Mavi Şehir has miles of beach and is steep in archaeological sites. On paper he has made a sensible investment - the area is developing very slowly compared to Altinkum. Mavi Şehir is an excellent area to invest.
