Hi there
Marjane had opening 'specials' on while I was there - there definitely had to be some reason I stood for 2-3 hours in queues !! The prices are not really that ‘special’ - what makes it worthwhile is the fact that you only have to go to ONE SHOP. We did walk around every single furniture and electrical store in Oujda – it took us most of 1 day, and I can truly save you the effort – go to Marjane ! This way you can have all the big stuff delivered on the same day – we bought on a Thursday and they delivered on the Sunday – obviously this may change depending on the demand – but I would be surprised if there is ever any more demand than there was over the Grand opening and over Eid !?
Also – ensure you advise your banks & credit cards that you’re going to Morocco – this saves on the hassle at the tills when your cards won’t work as the bank has stopped them in case of fraud !!
Kitea and Mobilia are cash only shops. Marjane takes all types of cards.
The most expensive items I found to be the stuff we take for granted : kettles, toaster, hairdryer and coffee machines.
Marjane Approx Prices
LG 29 inch TV = £180
Large Whirlpool Fridge with small freezer = £200
Whirlpool Microwave/grill = £ 65
Whirlpool washing machine = £250
- these are very expensive in Morocco as there isn't too much demand currently (that's what I was told anyway !?)
Satellite receiver : which you will need if you want to make use of the 4 satellite dishes on top of each block = £ 45
Mobilia Approx Prices
Single Bed Base : = £ 50
Single Mattress: = £ 70
Double Bed Base: = £120
Mattress: = £150
Tailor Made 3 Seater Sofa and large single seater chair = £400
Kitea Approx Prices
Tables & 4 chairs = £125
TV stand = £ 65
Nest of 3 tables = £ 65
I have added a picture of what Conforta is offering as a package for information & ease. I think Fadesa owns Conforta, or at least shares in it !
I would have like to decorate the apartment in a more traditional Moroccan theme, but I found compared to Fez and Marrakech, these type of items were quite few and far between, might be some more in Berkane that we didn’t see, but only found 2 small shops in Oujda selling this stuff, possibly because the tourists haven’t moved in yet ?
As to transport. This is the first time I have not hired a car there, and I really regretted it. Works out about £35-40 per day. Luckily we had Localhelp to assist us much of the time – such as the return trip from Melillia. He also took us to Oujda and Berkane for a couple of days. One day we did wait at the Fadesa offices in Saidia for almost 3 hours waiting for a taxi !? Luckily we met some very nice people in the process and shared e-mail addresses & stories, so it wasn’t all bad – just frustrating. We took a Grand Taxi (not for the faint hearted) from Saidia to Oujda return, for 5 hours it cost us approx £35, same price as car hire for the day – but you get a local driver thrown in – but be aware that many only speak Arabic – not all speak French and none that I have met speak any English. I recommend to hire a car for the freedom, but be very aware of the other drivers and ‘expect the unexpected’ – and don’t drive at night unless extremely necessary – there is little or no street lighting off the site.
Hope this helps, please send me a PM if you are going to visit in the near future.
