Cagla,
In most of the countries I have been to they appreciate you at least learning some basics of their language.
I think that it is only good manners, as we are the foriegners, not them
I have a very good friend who speaks it fluenty and is doing their hardest to teach me.

Bit like flogging a dead horse though.

Who ever I have spoken to in Turkey I have always apologized for my lack of Turkish,
and they have all been fantastic, more interested in me teaching them English.
And a smile does not cost anything.
I can not praise them enough as they have realised that I am struggling but appreciate that I am trying very hard to learn and they say it will come in time.
