But they were having none of it...they let her through after alot of shouting and some intervention of another passenger not sure what was said though. On the event that this happens to me would the threat of the tourist police be enough to make them understand i hate the thought of all that hassle after the flight.

On another subject would anyone know if the new shop being built by the B.R is open yet ?. If not were do i get my water ? i havent stayed there yet so not sure were to go for bread milk etc.

they did this to me in Sharm last year. I bought my multi entry visa from the UK embassy for £18 (free if you're married to an Egyptian apparently). When I arrived, they said it wasn't valid and made me buy a tourist visa. Then when my husband queried it, they even argued the toss with him and he's a native, they called one of the customs people and they said it is valid as it clearly states Multi Entry visa (i have come via cairo so they thought it was only valid the once) then they gave me my money back.

The multi entry visas are valid throughout Egypt but the tourist only in the tourist areas like Sharm or Hurghada etc...

With regards to haggling, just say Shukran and walk away (basically thanks but no thanks), if that doesn't work say "la imshi" that'll do the trick! It is firmer way of saying go away, not interested! Just try not to make eye contact in the street. I find they don't bother me on my own. If you have any issues with being hassled in the street or being overcharged, as Alison says, just say police and they'll back down. My husband says they're really hot on this over there and the police will 9/10 side with the tourist. They do not hassle women as much as you think and the police and airports etc are not allowed to search the women at all. We got stopped in Cairo, they asked for my husband's and his father's passports in the street, didn't even ask me a thing.

A 1 litre bottle of water I wouldn't pay more that EGP85. That is the going rate. They will try to charge you about EGP200 and say 85, if not then walk out they'll soon change their minds.

My husband has lots of friends in Sharm and one runs a tourist company there so if you need some good deals on trips let me know and I'll give you his details. He'd even collect you from the airport!

Taxis from the airport to Sharm is around EGP50, short trips EGP20 which is about £5/£2 respectively. Don't pay any more than this. The old bangers usually old Peugeot 406s are much cheaper than the fleet of taxis outside the shopping malls. These are bonafide taxis and are blue and white in Sharm, so don't get into any other cars as some guys try to pick you up at night when not real taxis.

Alison, re the furniture, Khal thinks they're not bad prices. He did say to ask you what aircon you bought as some are dearer than others and some also give out heat whilst others just cold air.

Anyway, I'll give you the low down when he's back on 2 June!
Anne
