When we were over in Feb we had a good look around for lcd tvs but couldnt find any the size we wanted 26-32" (so it wouldnt look too big for the room!) for under £650 gbp. We bought the 26" one here for £300 gbp + £50 for the excess baggage cost so £350 GBP in total - a saving of £300 - which paid for the other 2 smaller tvs for the bedrooms and the excess baggage!
I think as long as you package anything fragile up well it will arrive without a problem.... I suppose its all down to personal preference and whether you can be bothered with the hassle at this end or the hassle when you get there!
The other thing I found quite expensive when we were there was kettles and toasters.... a nice silver kettle was around £25 so I suppose its not too much different from here but the silver toasters (which i only saw a couple) were all over £30.00 - seems a lot when you can get them here for £7 in Tesco!
