There's no way that the retailers of Egypt are going to leave the thousands of tourists that will be living in the area once all of the hotels and apartment coplexes are complete without many options for eating, drinking and purchasing papyrus, Cleopatra busts and fake Armani T-shirts.
I reckon that it will take a decade or so before the area is fully built up, but the first of the retailers will start moving in well before then.

Yes Nick, these are my thoughts too. But there was talk of a major supermarket (Carrefour I think) applying for plans in that area a few weeks ago on this site.
