You might be missing a great opportunity to invest right under your nose in FLORIDA for the following reasons; 1) The dollar is getting killed abroad which means your money will purchase RE at a low (20 year low or more) which means your investment will have to outperform the cyclical drop of foreign currencies against the US dollar (which will happen). 2) Most real estate markets abroad are riding on current highs which will suffer corrections eventually (again cyclical) while the Florida real estate market is going through a severe corection currently (low). 3) The U.S. laws that regulate real estate investor protection are among the strongest and most respected in the world meaning, the government stands beside you and your investment here. You won't get that kind of protection in developing countries and quite often even in developed countries. Be very careful. Whether I was a domestic investor or International investor, I would seriously consider FLORIDA currently until the dollar swings up or the FLORIDA market begins it's return to double digit appreciation (especially waterfront property).
