Hi Daniel
I cannot comment on Spain nor can I give you "unbiased" advice

as I own and run an estate agency aimed specifically at the SW France - Dordogne region.
What I can say is that now is the first time for more than 8 years that we are now in a very clear buyers market and real bargains are starting to be found. France generally offers a very secure investment and has a mature domestic market. The legal system is sound (providing you get the requisite professional guidance) and offers good protection for buyers.
Although overseas buyers have always had important influence here, properties are sold to a wide range of buyers with many French people theselves, choosing to retire here for the same quality of life reasons. As such the region continues to appeal.
The climate is relaible and generally good with all four seasons. There is plenty of rain in Winter, hence why so green

, with many more cold frosty days than the UK. Summers are warm and rarely "too" hot. Common max temperatures for high summer are 35 degrees.
Our site itself offers much info about the region - please feel free to browse if you wish.
Good luck in your decision and happy hunting!
