Wayneis, I agree that taxes will become inevitable at some point to move the country forward. Too much of a good thing is normally bad (I could say the same about the UK welfare system). Crime, as you state, is probably limited to what the government wants us to see. Lessons from Russia will prove this is not a long-term solution and the media will have the final say. It's the response to crime which is commendable in Dubai, it simply will not be tolerated. There are good and bad things about Dubai, but as you've already stated, the positives outweigh the negatives.

Dubai is not rulled by a tyrant and the views of the masses are being heard. For example, any funds accumulated by off-plan sales by developers has to be kept aside for that devlopment, more regulation on scrupulous estate agents like ARY, etc.

It's an interesting developing country and, from what I've seen so far, is heading in the right direction.
