Seems like the Brasilian government might be moving slightly in the right direction... Is this the start of a loosening of the state's total financial countrol? International trading in the Real? Greater banking access? Comments please!

Just read the article and it s great news! Does that mean all the bank queues will diminish and easier transactions in Brasil and overseas using the real will be implemented??What about property overseas selling transactions?

If Brazil wants to keep growing as it has then it will have to start freeing up the flow of capital. This is definitely a step in the right direction.

Does anyone know exactly what this means about financial changes, apart from the fact that I don't need my passport now to change money? If you interpret it I read it that toursit outlets can now change money or maybe bill in foreign currency...so what?

Import/export of USD$ 25k wouldn't pay for a container of most goods!

Banks abroad...might be interesting...anyone financial out there to explain the benefits please?

It's main benefit will be to the exchange rate (i.e. lowering it) as it allows local companies to hold foreign currency and trade it when they like.

Why would a hotel holding Euros lower the Reis on International markets?

Flights from the UK to Natal have gone through the roof.Flying BMI to Brussels, then Brussels, onto Sal and finally to Natal will cost 1,100 sterling -July(adult fare)compared to Tap prices which are cheaper. How on earth do they expect people to come here with those kind of prices when even getting around Europe has seen in recent days hugh rises in regular charter services ?

The Caribbean is stunning and so is Australia and the US,,so why pay hugh prices to get to Brasil when you can travel to great destinations at a fraction of the price??

because it keeps the euros, dollars, etc. out of the banking system, at least until the hotel cashes them in.

Whatever your day job is Dotty, don't give it up to become a travel agent, and especially don't advise people where to go for holidays, but still I can't wait to hear why Brazil is so much worse a destination than the US, Caribbean or Australia.

I can go direct to Natal from amsterdam for 469€ plus easyjet from UK to ams in June.

I see absolutely no reason why hotels holding Forex will do anything to lower the Reis against other currencies. If there are any economic theorists out there, please can they explain what these currency changes mean.

You are quite right Dotty, Brazil is the most difficult and expensive place to get to from anywhere and you are also correct that there are much better easier and cheaper locations to go to. The good news is that this will depress prices for buyers in Brazil as it is not and will not be a boom market for at least 5 years, maybe longer...all depends on the oil price and how they open up their economy.
