I am having trouble posting; for some reason I can only post relatively short messages! So this is in 2 parts.
I have been to see Grupo Sanchez today and can report as follows to squash rumours and hearsay.
I am assured
1. They DO have the escritura for the land for the development
2. THey are awaiting a final licence from one of the 4 prefecturas of the affected villages.
3. They have the licences from Idema and in a press article locally Idema praised the site design as being ambientally and ecologically friendly.

4. Potential buyers can at present only reserve their preferences with a deposit of €6000 or 12000 in the case of penthouse. Contracts will be sent once they have the final licence. Then the balance of 30% will be due and the remaining 70% on keys. The money sent to Spain is guaranteed by Barclays, and when the money arrives in Brasil it will have a Brasilian bank guarantee.
5. The celebs involved cannot get away from commitments until end Feb early March so the ceremony is delayed till then, by which time they feel confident the difficulties with one of the four prefecturas will be overcome and they will start the construction.
6. There will be no rental guarantee
7. They cannot and are not yet selling in the Brasil market and are only taking reservations in Spain and the UK, and this is not illegal.
I was impressed both by the development planned and the frankness of answers to questions. Ronaldo has the rights for sales in Brasil, and he will appoint agents to assist in marketing here. Hope I covered everything!! To all who have bought- a good deal

Default New Airport

Here some fresh news of the new airport:

So, the goverment makes the compromise that the airport will be finished in 2010 (the 1srt phase). The capacity will be 5 mill passangers for this phase. 40 mill when is completly finished (maybe 2020).

It is a good news as the airport is fundamental for the success of the developments.

Best regards

Excellent info, Sipi, but unfortunately one week later it was announced here that the government had lost a crucial, and very close, vote to renew the CPMF tax. On January 1st next year (2008) it will cease to exist - in under 3 weeks time!

Insignificant as it may seem, the CPMF tax is imposed at a rate of 0.38% on virtually every banking financial transaction in Brazil, from cashing a cheque to paying a bill.

It is hugely unpopular with the wealthy, but represents a massive $20 billion annual income to the government - about £10 billion or 10% of all of the government's revenue.

It was supposed to all have been directed towards programmes for the poor, but has been criticised for failing to achieve this, and used, instead, for other programmes, which must now suffer.

Such an immediate enormous loss of revenue to the government may cause such luxuries as airports to be put on the back burner?

The airport is very important for the development of RN. They need the airport as fundamental stone for growing turisms and comercial sectors. Basic for the economy of the region. No airport....no development in my opinion.

It seems they pursue to involve the private iniciative in the project, but it seems. The investment for the airport becomes from the Federal Goverment (PAC) and the access infraestructures to the airport will be financed by the regional goverment.

This article is dated yesterday.

Hope it help.

The airport is very important for the development of RN.

With respect, Sipi, any investment in any airport in NE brazil is to be welcomed, and much needed.

As I am sure you know, from your language, what is said, and what is done , are sometimes a long way apart.

Yes, I know that. But, at least, it is obvious it is a priority for the Goverment. In fact "the priority". We will see how things are going.

By the way, antone has some news about Elegance?.

And that's true with all governments....but particularly so here in Brazil. Sorry, I've already been through this "airport" deal and "international flights" thing. The chances of it happening in the next 3-5 years are slim.

Last meeting I had with Grupo Sanchez was reported on this thread and was only a couple of weeks ago. I am sure nothing has changed. Wating for last licence and expect to break ground in March 2008.
