Building your own place is rewarding....also helps improve my Portuguese as I am too lazy at taking lessons. I always consider it's important to view property first, documents etc and find someone you trust who knows how things are to guide you through the buying process. For me life is an adventure so buying something half falling down is a great opportunity but may not be everybodies cup of tea.

There are many opportuniies here but it's not for the faint hearted.

Welcome R1. I am a Brit, but live permanently on Ilha de Itamaraca, so know your territory well!

Prices in JP can be a bit offputting - and I think your current investment plan sounds spot on. I was in Boa Viagem yesterday - well I tried to drive down the front, but the road was closed for more Carnaval!

Had friends staying at the International Palace and they needed a lift to the airport, and wife wanted shopping from Extra! Back there again tomorrow for meeting with attorneys close to Shopping Recife, so I hope the traffic has cleared by then!

Brazil is a great place to invest, but you have to know why you are investing and what you want from your investment. For anyone to advise you there are many questions to ask. The best advice those that live here will give you is to visit Brasil, (2 weeks recommended), and have a good look round to get the feel of the country, culture etc. I meet lots of Brits as well as Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish here in Natal, and have been able to help a number of them to invest safely, with an exit strategy. Ralph is also helping investors NOT make mistakes.
So ............Let us kknow when you have booked a flight!!

Do your own research and don't just believe what you are told - make sure you use a competent lawyer to check all the legalities of the product and read everything you are given and make sure you understand it 100% before you sign anything. (Never sign anything in Portuguese unless you are fluent in Portuguese).

Also any money you invest has to be sent to Brasil in your name and registered as entering the country from you. If you want some opinions on developments out there feel free to post here as there are a lot of people who will give you unbiased advice on them (and a few who will give you biased advice too hehe)

Decide what you are investing for. Pure financial or also to use yourself? Personally even if you are going for pure financial you should always aim for something you can use yourself in the worst case scenario. Make sure you will be able to sell it on at a later date. Who will you be selling it to, locals or internationals etc?

Apart from that, just use your common sense.

Hi ye all Brazil Property owners !!

I am a fist time investor, currently researching options in Brazil...

I see that most of the deals are initiated and finalised on the web. I am aware of the risks involved in online deals and I would like to know genuine and reliable agents to deal with.

Can anyone let me know the credentials of 'Property Showrooms' based in Spain. They have been in constant touch with me for about a month now.

Similarly how are EQuity - London, CPS-Ireland and Experience International-U.K.

2) Do you guyz believe in making a visit to the site before taking the plunge ? I know there are ppl who dont.

Similarly I am of the opinion that a local investigation would fetch much better deals - both in terms of pricing as well as actual potential for returns.

Thanks.

Gee.

Don't even consider buying anything until you get of your backside and go to Brazil, look around talk to people smell it taste it see it...and don't under any circumstances believe any of the unadulterated propaganda that comes out of Spain about Brazil. If they are so expert, why aren't they in Brazil themselves?

Hi Gee,

Search this forum for IPIN or Property Showrooms and you will find plenty of info.

Regards,
Rob.

Love the typo - fist time investor - the mind boggles!

Totally agree with GW - under no circumstances buy without visiting the many areas on offer in NE Brazil, and talk to people like us on the ground here.

Hi

I am a newish investor in Rio Grand do Norte who bought a piece of land and had a four bedroom beach house built. From negotiation to fit-out completion took 5 months. Short-term holiday bolt hole. Long term investment/potential retirement. For the sum involved a risk worth taking.

Good luck to all investors that follow suit ....

Kliffy
