Desperation breeds desperate actions and I don't blame them. If I were a poor Brazilian dude in Paraiba, had hungry kids to feed, a nagging skinny wife, etc.. and I saw a rookie gullible gringo, I might try and rob him, who knows what is going on in the mind of another human being?

It's a sad deal though... I didn't make the rules, I just play by them.
Mate Brazil is not a third world country. Its from top 20 economies in the world!

Would u call India, Russia and China a third world countries?> I wouldnt

Surprisingly enough, the United Nations qualify Brazil as "High Human Development", as opposed to "Medium Human Development" (Morocco, India, South Africa) or "Low Human Development" (Angola, Rwanda, Ethiopia).

I would have thought it would be classed in "Medium" but then again it was in 70th position of "High" whereas number 71 (Dominica) is "Medium"

With regards to your reference of India, here is an interesting quote from the United Nations Development Programme, the body responsible for the classification:

"FACT: Around 1.6 billion people in the world lack access to electricity, most live in sub Saharan Africa. The number of people in India living without access to electricity is around 500 million"

Source: UNDP

Prices in JP can be a bit offputting - and I think your current investment plan sounds spot on. I was in Boa Viagem yesterday - well I tried to drive down the front, but the road was closed for more Carnaval!

Had friends staying at the International Palace and they needed a lift to the airport, and wife wanted shopping from Extra! Back there again tomorrow for meeting with attorneys close to Shopping Recife, so I hope the traffic has cleared by then!
Hi, thanks for the welcome sorry to get back to you late, the Carnaval was very busy how long you been over here? do you work?

Its funny in six yrs i have never meet anyone from the u.k. living here i know there are some about somewhere!

Hi again. Strangely, last night I had dinner at one of Brazil's top restaurants - Bargaco on Boa Viagem, (no doubt you know it), with a bunch of friends, one of whom is a Brit who has lived in Recife for 27 years.

I have another who has been here over 30 years! I am just a newcomer (less than a year) and live and work on the island of Itamaraca.

Why not send me a private message or email and I can put us all together, or at least in touch with each other?
