Dotty - Thanks for the advice. I dont think any of us are interested in purchasing there, I was just researching other developments in the area of Zen.

The name of the development is Cabo do São Roque. Not to be confused!

Why do you people get involved with touristy projects promoting this junk outside Brazil?

I bet you 10K that David Beckham opened this 'academy' for other reasons like a resident visa, business reasons, etc; something related to him and his own personal motivations. I highly doubt he did this from the goodness of his precious little English heart.

My advice? Learn to speak/understand at least 50% Portuguese, come to Brazil alone, travel by bus from Floripa to Belem, walk by foot in each town, spend a minimum 3 weeks in each small to mid size town.... then live in Brazil minimum one year (rent a flat), then and only then should you decide to invest in real estate. A word from someone who retired at 40 and never has to work again, DON'T EVER INVEST OFF SHORE UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE THE MONEY.

My man Buffet always said, '...only invest in things you understand completely.'

There are true stories of astronomical returns but the risks are enormous compared with opportunities available in the US/Europe even in today's dilapidated market [including investing in international mutual funds, which I do recommend for a small portion of your portfolio].

If you want to own a house, do so to live in it. Don't consider this an investment; consider it a place to live. If you start a business, do something you enjoy to pass time and don't depend on the income. If you make a fortune, you'll find a place to spend it but don't plan to pay the rent and buy groceries with it because very few do so successfully.

Remember, you are a foreign national and having the option of leaving quickly is something you might not want to give up.
