Question Dotty strikes again

Some of us purchased our property without actually seeing it, foolhardy maybe, but just because you see a place in person doesn,t mean you will not encounter the same problems as if you had not seen it, and to be able to buy from the UK we had to pay someone to obtain our CPF for us, STOP thinking in black and white, some options are not available to everyone, and £200 is a small price to pay when you look at the overall expenditure on a new property.Should everyone spend a couple of thousand pounds to go to Brasil on holiday, just so they can save £200 on their CPF, I don,t think so, but there again that is only my opinion, other people may be more cautious than I am, but my approach has served me well when buying my other two properties in different countries.

You are right Dotty, its easy. If my memory serves me right, second day I arrived here, I went to Banco do Brasil one morning and filled out a form. Paid a fiver, and they sent me the number 2 weeks later to my temporary address ( aparthotel). I assume, tourists can arrange the same thing. If I did it, anyone can. To be honest, to this day ( 4 years later) I never actually picked up my little card from the Bank ! I just tell people the number when requested. But I am not suprised gringos pay this big money for a straight forward little number. If they know nothing about the country they are investing in, or haven even put a toe on the ground, they are always bound get screwed. Well that goes for any place really.

here we go again . . . ignorant people assuming you cant make money or invest money in a country without having visited it first. Does that go the same for buying stocks and shares, visit the company, shake the hand of the CEO? What about buying groceries online from Tesco? Sounds dangerous to me......
Must ask Rockerfella, Trump and other land and property billionaires if they always visit prospective investments and stand in a queue to get their registration papers.

Anyway, thanks for your good wishes and when I do visit Brazil I'll be sure to visit all the local authority offices I can find - wouldnt want to sit on the beach enjoying myself instead.

All the best Ivanka Trump. Try learning Portuguese before you come over too.

Thanks Graymax, I can't PM until I am an active member or something but maybe you can PM me.

By the Way, on the whole CPF thing; it is not that we are really being asked to pay £100/200 for the number. We are being asked to pay that for the time and effort of the solicitor. Unfortunately we live in a country where £200 is about as cheap as a solicitor gets (even though they probably get the office administrator to do the actual work). My point really is that it might be possible to apply to the Brazilian embassy in the UK myself.

By the way, I have been to NE Brasil, I couldn't afford any of the property that I was shown while I was there and to be honest I don't think I would be any safer purchasing there as I would through an agent here. You are right about the portugese though!

Be warned though, this method takes a lot of time, usually around 3 months to receive your number let alone the card itself.

Smile Project Zen Eco-resort

All very enlightening though can i suggest that those focussed purely on the CPF aspect start a new topic if they wish to continue their discussion.
This thread is entitled Project ZEN Eco Resort, though you would never know it from the last dozen or so postings
