But again, would you consider that proof that all European agents are crooked or that the one he was dealing with was crooked?

By the way we can't spend a lot of time on this as I've had that discussion for ages with other people on the forums and ultimately they either change their mind or don't but never following my discussions with them (obviously another reason why I'm not in sales hehe)

Default not crooked

European agents are not all crooked, but in his case he lost a lot of money, due to inexperience from the buyers part and the agents part.I mean he thought that he had bought it.He paid for it,got a contract but not an escritura.QUOTE=JMBroad;41694]But again, would you consider that proof that all European agents are crooked or that the one he was dealing with was crooked?

Good so we agree with one another.

If you are going to use an agent, use one which knows what they are talking about, whether they are in Europe but do regular visits to Brazil or have people on the ground in Brazil (like a couple on these forums) or whether they are Brazilian.

We should start a new thread "how do you know an agent is legit". Now that would be an interesting topic, and I'm sure most agents here would be interested in seeing how investors classify them as legit or not. Probably not the way we think.

I think I would be able to talk to an agent (whether Brazilian or European) and be able to judge correctly if they know what they are talking about but how would the regular investor do it?

Default investor

I really think a new investor should come and stay here 2/3 years to see the project grow and hopfully finish and remain intouch throughout the whole project especially in Brazil.Besides it is cheap for them to support and maintain their living styles, providing they work(another dangerous area)QUOTE=JMBroad;41701]Good so we agree with one another.

Everyone who wants to invest in a country can't take 2 to 3 years off work to move to the country before deciding to invest in it.

In fact I can't think of anyone that would. What if after 2 to 3 years they decide investing in Brazil is not for them? Go home and try and get their old job back?

But thats the point .How can one invest in a country if they are blind?Surely it is wiser to feel the country and its politics which is like no other and not get carried away on a 2 week trip and be stung.

There is a large difference between someone investing for their own use (because they like the feel) and investing in property in a country which has all the economic indicators which show that it is a wise investment.

People don't invest in bacon stocks and shares because they like bacon, but because they believe the price of bacon will rise.

If you are talking about buying a holiday home/second use/retirement home overseas, I couldn't agree more, people have to get a feel for the place, which is often hard from photos or a weekend trip.

But for investment purposes it's a whole different ball game with totally different reasons for the purchase.
