Dubai is on the edge of a precipice; over supply, poor quality finishes, projects being put on hold, scaled back, cancelled. The share price of the big developers has halved. The government is looking to Abu Dhabi to bail them out. Steer well clear; keep your money on deposit and wait for the carnage.

Ya its going to be nasty. But the rent is so high in Dubai. I can't figure out how much prices will fall. I'm sure they will fall by 20 % at least. But i feel that the rent will act as leverage in some way. I think we will see forced selling soon in the next few months as mortgages in Dubai are fixed to the dollar, which isn't going in the favor of Europe at the moment. The end of the recession might come in time to save huge depreciation in Dubai. But i think the Dollar will fall in the next 6 months to a year combined with big discounts in Dubai may make it a good buy.

But to be honest, i would invest in Abu Dhabi before Dubai. I loved Dubai but the amount of apartments being built was ridiculous. The metro looks great but they will need shuttle buses to and from the complexes as people wont walk 200m in the heat of summer !
There will be an exodus out of Dubai soon as 1000s are being laid off with no hope of jobs in sight.
But i can't see a Abu Dhabi falling much.

Just out of interest, does anybody else believe that the dollar is in a perilous position ?
People may realize that American Government bonds are risky due to America's trillion dollar promises to different sectors over the years and Americans may become wary of buying bonds. I think America may have to start increasing the interest on Bonds to keep people interested. Fear may take over leading to an exodus, leaving the dollar in free fall.
Thats what i think, Obama's plan may lead to a huge hangover which has a many implications with currencies that are linked to it and different countries ?
God I'm getting very pessimistic
This will be the worst recession in living memory, Keep your money in a good bank account and shelter from the storm as the **** is just starting to hit the fan. But in the next 12 -18 months will come the biggest opportunity for wealth gain that only comes once or twice in a life time, thats for sure.
Ya I'm finished ranting now.

Have you considered going that little bit further afield with your investment?

For the kind of investment you are considering (assuming the 100-150'000 US$ is available funds, and not the limit of the financial commitment) you could do very well in the Turkish resort market.

I represent a newly completed 5-Star private beach front resort in Southern Turkey, where with that kind of deposit you would be in a position to take options on a number of new 5-star BTL properties; prime high-end tourist location with all year round rentals and minimal running costs.

It would certainly be worth looking into further as an alternative to the high costs involved with Dubai.
