I am using UAE Exchange branches (www.uaeechange.com) to buy AED currency. The rate has been very good and compared with transferring money using HSBC, UAE are much cheaper.

E.g £1 =

UAE Exchange AED rate = 7.11 / Travelex & HSBC approx AED 7.00
Fee: UE Exchange £15.00 up to £1000 / £20 HSBC; travelex unknown.

Does anyone have any other recommendations on who to use and who gives the best rate/low fees???

Red face

May be this is stating the obvious however the UAE Dirham is tied to the US $ around 3.67 AED = 1 US $ so you could allways buy Dollars instead of Dirhams.

This how ever will change in the future as there has been much focal concern over the UAE currency being pegged to the US Dollar.

For information only:

For those of you who don't track exchange rates, the Dirham rate against Sterling has started to fall slightly so it might be wise to purchase your Dirhams whilst the rate is still above £1.00 to 6.7AED.

Current rate is £1.00 to 6.9AED approx
