The Central District of International City is now sold out, two years ahead of the projects expected completion date. The Nakheel development is located in the center of International City and spreads over 21 ha of land. Once complete the district will be the center of International City’s commercial activity but will also house residential and leisure amenities.
The district’s 34 plots have been sold to independent investors. The new owners have the flexibility to develop their own projects on the plots, under Nakheel’s guidelines. Although The Central District will primarily serves as the business hub of International City developers will also be able construct residential towers.
All of the 11-storey towers in will house retail outlets on the ground floor and each tower will have basement parking for 130 vehicles. The key feature of the district will be the 30 to 40-storey tower that will house corporate offices with a shopping mall at its base.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, executive chairman, Nakheel, said: “We have positioned International City as the one of new centres for trading and commercial activities in Dubai. After careful research and study, we positioned this project in an area which we anticipate there will be major commercial and residential growth in the coming years. It is the first project in the Middle East to offer residential buildings within a business, retail and tourism complex. Unlike other large projects currently under development, International City is truly international, offering upscale residences designed along architectural styles from around the world and commercial buildings in the heart of a major world-class mega-project. We are positive it will prove to be a magnet for those looking for a new home as well as multinational companies that want a location in the heart of the Middle East’s business hub.”

Companies will have the convenience of restaurants and retail outlets on their doorstep, as well as enjoy the benefit of being part of a network of businesses right in the center of Dubai’s commercial hub,” added bin Sulayem. International City is being built to cater for international investors, traders and retailers in Al Warsan area, just 12 km from Dubai International Airport. The development is divided into six main areas, incorporating residential, commercial and retail buildings.
The six areas are the Central District; Dubai Gate, the gateway to International City that forms the border on three sides of the development; the Residential District, incorporating different architectural styles from around the globe; the Lake District, a quiet lake and public park area; Forbidden City, a 240 000 m2 replica of the Forbidden City in Beijing and Chinamex Mart, a dragon-shaped shopping mall with a 1.4 km long spine selling Chinese produce.

Most interesting part is 34 * 11-storey towers in will house retail outlets on the ground floor and each tower will have basement parking for 130 vehicles. ill be mostly Office but some residential towers. And more details on the key feature of the district, the 30/40F tower in center that will house corporate offices with a shopping mall at its base

The 1.2 km long dragon-shaped structure is in the final stages of construction and will assemble the largest and most varied collection of Chinese products and services under one roof.

The unique retail, commercial and residential project will create a novel type of retail in the heart of New Dubai. The project development within the International City is being supported and implemented by Nakheel and the Chinamex Middle East Investment and Trade Promotion Center.

'The development of International City is driven by emerging trends in business and lifestyles of various countries represented in the Residential District,' said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, Nakheel. 'However, the dynamism and innovation displayed by China has prompted us to create a dedicated area to Chinese traders and investors could carry out commercial activities and open their wares to new markets, in a setting that would recreate bring alive the Chinese ambience through themed interiors.'

Dragon Mart will be housed inside the biggest dragon-shaped building in the world, spread over an area of 150,000 square meters, extending to a length of 1.2 km, with the dragon-head measuring 220 meters in length and 210 meters in width and 18 meters in height. The body of the dragon will be 980 meters long, 110 meters wide and 6.4 meters high. Dragon Mart will be a two-storey structure with the exterior made up of aluminum plates to give the look of the scales of a dragon.

'Dragon Mart will assemble over 4,000 qualified Chinese manufacturers and enterprises, including joint venture companies and foreign companies operating from China, all pre-qualified and selected by concerned authorities, in order to ensure high quality and consistent standards,' added bin Sulayem. 'When completed, Dragon Mart will provide a unique business and lifestyle experience to visitors from all over the world.'

Dragon Mart will house showrooms, shopping area, restaurants and warehouses. The Mart will be divided into 20 commercial areas, 13 service areas, an office area and a business center. There will be many negotiation rooms and three conference rooms within the commercial areas.

Adjoining the Dragon Mart will be a complex of 25 residential buildings in a Chinese themed elevation, located about 300 meters away from the mart, offering 1,868 quality apartments and retail space on the ground floor level, completing the picture of an elegant mixed used development. The first areas of International City to be opened are the Dragon Mart and the Chinese residential districts, while the rest of the residential districts, commercial areas and tourist attractions will follow at different stages throughout 2005.

Huge residential complex designed to be an international community. buildings will be designed in local architecture of the participating nations.
runs quite well. dragon mart will house more than 1000 Chinese companies.
