Red face VAT is comming as well...as all the indirect taxes we have now.

Hey guys ...couple of Facts....You pay many Indirect Forms of taxes here in Dubai also the government wants to introduce VAT in the future. The IMF is advising the UAE on the technicalities of introducing VAT.

To say that Dubai is Tax Free is just not true.

There are also different opinions about the Low Crime rate, one train of thought is that the Government (by way of controlling press and radio) only lets it known what it wants us to know and that the true crime rate is much higher.

There is some credibility in this as Large Villas and Villas in compounds have been targeted, burgled and these were reported in the press.

In Dubai you do not have a "free economy" with all the checks and balances you have in England. Just take the rent cap decision along with Nakheel offloading apartments at "Fire sale Rental prices". I am against the rent cap as this is then not a "free market" . There are too many variables not taken into account with the rent Cap. For example under the present Law as a land Lord you can only increase Rent by 7% after 2 years however after 2 years I would say that maintenance Fees alone will increase more than this amount ,take into account cost of living increases and we are all ready sliding down the back side of the economic equation.

Good deal for the tenant, not so attractive for the investor.

Given that International City Apartments are on the more affordable side of renting then market Forces should be allowed to eventually dictate what Rent or return you achieve on your investment with out intervention.

Read what Wikipedia has to say for and against Rent Control here
Rent control laws are frequently used in economics courses as a textbook example of the problems that arise in trying to artificially reduce prices.

SSM Taxes as you will find are alive and thriving when you come to holiday or just eat out in Dubai. All Hotels charge a municipality tax additional to your bill of 10% Most Hotels and places you eat out now throw in a "Service Charge" of 10% The hired hands though are worked to the bone, get a salary less than 2,000 AED a month thats less than 275 Pounds a month to survive on, many paid less than this in 5 star establishments.

"Every thing That Glitters is not Gold" could also be placed along side "You build it and they will come"

Wayneis, I agree that taxes will become inevitable at some point to move the country forward. Too much of a good thing is normally bad (I could say the same about the UK welfare system). Crime, as you state, is probably limited to what the government wants us to see. Lessons from Russia will prove this is not a long-term solution and the media will have the final say. It's the response to crime which is commendable in Dubai, it simply will not be tolerated. There are good and bad things about Dubai, but as you've already stated, the positives outweigh the negatives.

Dubai is not rulled by a tyrant and the views of the masses are being heard. For example, any funds accumulated by off-plan sales by developers has to be kept aside for that devlopment, more regulation on scrupulous estate agents like ARY, etc.

It's an interesting developing country and, from what I've seen so far, is heading in the right direction.

There are more police on the streets because there is more crime....wake up, that's bad not good. Every other person is becoming a community support officer. Supply is simply meeting demand.

The UK has a benefit system, free medical and free education. If you were forced to pay partly towards these services, then I'm sure more people would get off their backsides and work. The point I'm making is that these free services attract the worst of the worst and give no incentive for people to work. If the system was is so brilliant, why haven't other countries copied it?

I don't see many UAE citizens flooding illegally down the channel tunnel to gain entry into the UK, but I do see more and more people leaving the UK to move to the UAE.
Weren't asians and blacks treated like second class citizens when they moved to the UK? That's why equal opportunity laws were created. UAE have laws for its citizens to abide and they seem to work but I have no doubt they will change when required. Dubai certainly needs foreign investors to survive. People go to Dubai for a better quality of life. The ongoing change in self-perception by Arabs will be a key factor in it's success.

UAE doesn't care if Americans do not buy in Dubai, the UAE and Saudi's OWN about 5-10% of American assets. It's countries like the UAE that are holding the dollar up. They have the upper hand. This small country will not be pushed around by America and will certainly not be it's puppet.

If I'm living in a 4000 sq ft house, then I would expect to pay high maintenace charges. Maybe the UK should adopt this strategy rather than lumping a 2000 sq ft three bedroom house in the same bracket as a 4000 sq ft three bedroom house. As I've already stated, I expect these charges and other laws to change as the country is in a development stage of less than 20years.

People are poorer in Dubai. Man, people are going bankrupt in the UK! IVAs, bankruptcies and soon mortgages will be at their highest levels ever. Free medical, education and benefits will not save their backsides. A recent survey in the UK found 3.8 million children live in poverty in the UK today, thats one in three children! So much for the minimum wage.

The best laugh is that after paying taxes and contributing to your pension for the best part of 50 years......you're told the pension fund has been raided or the top brains of britain got their sums wrong. At least in Dubai, the criminals will be subjected to a fitting prision sentence rather than a slap on the wrist, 2 years community service, free medical, free education and benefits galore!

SSM may be if you stopped listening to people and did some research you could quote facts!!
This place i stress again isn't about scoring points and people would appreciate if you posted facts rather than hot air. I have always backed my points with web links, but here you seem to point out irrelevant points which are completely FALSE, FURTHER, THE POINTS YOU PREVIOUSLY QUESTION don't even have a mention in your following post. You speak about your skillz and how useful it would be in Dubai, realizing it was available at a pittance you pick on the UK'S systems. Myfirend i say this again UK is a country Dubai is a state, i suggest you correct that FACT too in your last post. There are more people in London alone than in the whole of Dubai. Further, this place was about property and better living in Dubai and to help people see and judge for them selves, Uk was just picked in comparison, i could have picked Monte Carlo. Ok, lets analyse how much HOT AIR and false information you spill here.....these will be supported with facts(links) and not my opinion, you could always put your points , this time make sure they are supported by facts.

In your first point you mention more police is more crime???have you thought more work??these are support officers who patrol every street of London now, i haven't been up north, so i can't comment, crime levels have fallen to record levels, these have added 23,000 jobs in London ALONE with pay scales starting from 18-25k pounds.
BBC NEWS | Business | UK sees unemployment total fall
This web will show you we have the lowest unemployment rate in Europe.

this shows crime level at their lowest in 25 years!!!]

Crime Statistics for England and Wales - British Crime Survey: All crime.

SO, your first point was totally baseless, further have you heard a local in UAE being prosecuted for irrational driving and rape??? (second class citizen issue )
About the question you pose why other countries haven't adopted UK's system ,well another question without research, many countries have in Europe and many have beeen abused by the asylum seekers and other scroungers, but it still works and copes wel, because, IT'S FAIR,TOLERANT AND WORKS ON TRUE PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY. Well, why the other countries besides Europe haven't is because its expensive, PEOPLE NEED TO PAY MORE TAXES . YOU HAVE THAT SYSTEM IN THE UAE FOR THE LOCALS(first class citizens) and it is so strong there, that you can't even have a business or buy a property within the city limits, YOU NEED A SPONSOR!! unless u practice in the free zone. So, the UAE goverment does not give citizenship, does not have asylum seekers, if you don't work your are out, visa regulations and there is still CRIME AND THE PEOPLE THERE WORK AND PAY FOR THE BENEFITS OF THE LOCALS AND THE TAX FREE CARROT THEY DANGLE ISN'T EVEN TAX FREE.LOLLLLL...i would love to hear your comments on this!!
You talk about asians and blacks , man that was APARTHEID OR RACISM are you suggesting it is still rife is the UAE???????????/OMG!!!!! THAT WAS ABOLISHED 200 YEARS AGO IN THE UK, YOU CAN'T PICK ON THE MINORITIES ATTITUDE TOWARDS RACE ISSUES AND THINK THAT IS THE MAJORITY(if that was the case BNP party would be ruling the UK and not LABOUR), THE FIRST COUNTRY TO ABOLISH SLAVERY. You should do your research how these arabs exploited africa , if you are well travelled go to ZANZIBAR(TANZANIA)where they exported slaves . I am shockED to learn you still feel there is a APARTHEID system in the UAE....and it clearly shows in your statement that the arabs will have to change their perception if their economy is to flourish, so they need to use the expatrites??so you agree you'r looked down upon by these Arabs??you are a second class citizen and face APARTHEID TOO???LOL

Since i need to go out for a meeting I will comment on the rest of your points later during the day...happy reading!!

i am rambling on your ignorance !!!!hahahahaha

and in ur case its bliss............

It shows you are full of yourself and couldn't digest a lil bit of truth and disgrace, is that why you stopped reading at the first line??Further,It clearly shows you have nothing more to say, as facts speak for themselves.

You typed 2 500 words essay full of rubbish without reading?? we certainly know now you typed all baseless rubbish with no facts, NEXT TIME PLEASE POST WITH PROOF AND LESS HOT AIR , cause one person also had the same sentiments as you. I know you have skillz and you are entitled to an opinion, but facts come from research and opinions are full of emotions!!!good bye and good riddance.

ps:Furhter, correction points on your previous post will follow soon...points on Dubai holding up the dollar, UK pension fund.etc etc....soon
