With regard to promotional posting there is a bit of a thin grey line; many of us are involved in the property market in one way or another and this is clear from our 'Signatures'. A post which updates progress on something with which we are known to be associated should therefore be acceptable. If it is a blatant advert for your product this is not allowed - use the sales section. Another potential proble area could be members wanting to know more about a particular project. This is best dealt with by a PM to the person who you believe has the knowledge. If a commercial question is asked in open forum the person responding could be in breach of the rules. PM's are always the best way to stay within the guidelines.

recent mortgage post looks a bit too much detail to be "general" interest and needs some editing I think.

If the recent post on mortgages was trying to sell property I would say that it would have been outright advertising. However as most of us have either bought, are buying or intend to buy then any information on mortgages should be of interest to many people. Does every one agree?

Related product adverts are OK then - thats OK as long as this is consistent.

I'm also interested in the mortgage stuff but I thought phone numbers and names on the open threads was not acceptable..

I would have thought it was ok as long as there are no promotional links taking you onto another website.
It is information that we are looking for on the forum and even gives anybody the chance to become broker.

If unsure wether it is classed as promotional please send a private message to the person you are providing the information to.It is very important to remember this as otherwise your posts will be removed. Please, please, please, let's not spoil it.

How does this work with web-site links by premium members and others where there is always a web-site embedded in the post.
Also new threads, or threads that have gone "off-topic", have a wide audience which means private messages are inappropriate.

Hi dave99,

This does not apply to signatures,it does apply to the content of the post.
Basically the moderator would make the final call if they thought it was overly promotional and if anything was deleted the moderator would then pm the poster
with an explanation.

Hi folks
Believe me we have moved mountains this year in terms of keeping the forum free from promotional posting so please help us to continue into 2008. Its amazing that once new contributors appear with fresh, interesting content the activity on the forum goes ballistic. Thats the way we want it! More original content, more new members and happy people prepared to share their experiences.
