Self Catering in Apartments in Hurghada

The 2 biggest supermarket chains here are ..ABU ASHARA and EBAID.
There are several of these all over Hurghada...the largest is the family market Abu Ashara which is on the road between Sekella and Dahar.
For you DAVE99 your local big supermarket would either be this Abu Ashara or the Ebaid store opposite The El joker fish restaurant in Sekella.
We can most things here but as J4 Hurghada knows(she kindly brought me out some supplies..the bacon went down a treat)if you can bring your own teabags and bits from the UK you cant do without.
Most things in the supermarket are cheaper than the UK.. sugar is only 32le a kilo.
But anything imported can be expensive a box of 12 weetabix is 40 le.
But as J4 Hurghada has said eating out here is cheap but i know if you here in your apartments then you want to eat some meals in.
The market in Dahar is cheap for your fruit and veg..10p a kilo tomatoes cucumbers 22p a kilo peppers 30p a kilo bananas 25p a kilo grapes 20p a kilo.
So when you arrive a quick trip to the market and you stock up on salad stuff and fruit..get some cheddar cheese butter(you buy it off a lrge block so ask for it on the deli counter)eggs and some fresh bread from the bakery in sekella (just behind the ebaid supermarket) and you options for eating cheaply and healthly.

I have seen the big Market in Dahar from outside will definately give it a visit next time i'm there.
I believe a Abu Ashra will also be opening under the Desert Rose 2 development which is on the suleder side road within 200 metres from Suleder.

HI redsea, (glad the bacon went down well), If people buying there own apartment they will soon realise that the things we call normal shopping is not the case in Egypt, Pork is a no no so bring your own. I love tea and I find the Egyptian tea very good. Brown sauce on our bacon butties pack it at home. Shopping can be a nightmare if using small what they call supermarkets. Be prepared to barter your not in Spain. The larger supermakets are all priced up.also dont forget the baked beans they are a must on the English Breakfast.
