Default Some Property Journalists Need a Kick up the Derriere!

Beachfront property: All year in the sun, all day on the beach - all yours for £55,000 - Telegraph

"A villa by the sea, where you step out from your garden straight on to the sand, is how nearly half of us visualise our perfect holiday home.

It is not wildly surprising news. Sunrise dips in warm sea, sunset drinks on the terrace, nothing to block the view between you and the waves; it's hardly a vision that many would have a problem with.

The novel bit is that this kind of idyll needn't cost as much as you might imagine. Prime coastline around Europe's most popular holiday resorts may have been snapped up or deemed unbuildable-on, but venture further and you can still find a toe-in-the-sand bolthole for £55,000."

£55,000!? This is the price of beachfront at Sahl Hasheesh that some people are calling completely insane. And someone should have told this journalist that there are still plenty of beachfront apartments available in other parts of the Red Sea Riviera for less than half this price - starting from just £20,000.

To me this is perfect proof as to the almost total ignorance that the general public has about Egypt at the moment. One day, some broadsheet journalist is going to get his or her atlas out and start talking about the opportunities and the 'secret' will be out and prices will quickly get up to the same levels as the other 'hidden gems' revealed in this article.

I know this particular journalist and I have written to her to invite her on the next agents viewing trip to Sahl Hasheesh next month; I am sure that once she has seen what is happening on the Red Sea she will readily appreciate the obvious 'omission' in her report!

Just to show we Moderators are on the ball here is the reply from the journalist Propertastic was referring to!

Hi Peter,
Just hopping on flight to spain now, but just to reply to your email, I was in El Gouna and Hurghada last week for the Telegraph and am writing a piece about the whole Red Sea area - including Sahl Hasheesh. So hope to reduce that public ignorance!

Zoe

I guess we have to keep an eye on the Telegraph to see what transpires!

That's excellent news! Articles like this have the potential of really snowballing. Let's hope that one of the TV shows picks up on it and Egypt really starts to become considered as a mainstream market rather than an 'emerging' one.
