Hi British Resort owners

Just to introduce ourselves, I'm Steve and along with my wife Christine we have bought apartment 1131.
We bought from Churchill 2 years ago and while we were in Luxor summer 2007 Waleed came to pick us up at Luxor and take us to Hurghada. We spent 2 days picking furniture, curtains, light fittings, door handles and a fridge.
We stayed in our apartment for a week at Easter this year and finished off furnishing our apartment. Unfortunately a few items weren't quite finished (no door handles or kitchen sink fitted). Had to chose new fridge as one we picked did not fit, picked it on first day there, was delivered that night. Also had to re-pick light fittings, delivered and fitted within 2 days.
Waleed took us to Abu Ashara market and we bought crockery, cutlery and other essentials.
Spent the week making frequent trips out on my own (while Christine and our daughter Gemma went to the beach)to Abu Ashara and other shops to buy other essentials (Bedding, tv and satellite box etc.).
We are flying from Gatwick with Easyjet on 29th December for a week (travelling down from Sunderland on the Sunday and staying overnight - no flights from Newcastle yet). I was on the verge of booking with XL from Manchester until I checked Easyjet website and got flights for almost half of XL's fares (good job I did). Anyone else going out for New Year?
We only hope the jobs on the list we gave to Medhat have been completed by then (don't want to wash up in the bathroom basin again).
Are any facilities open at British Resort yet, mainly laundry.

Steve & Christine

Welcome both

I am going out on the 12th Dec for a week. I gather that the hotel is not up and running yet, though they are working hard on it. Vikki told me that there is no new facilities apart from the pool and that will be freezing. Like most of us though I think we have picked a very good project and I am more than happy with my apartment. Hope to catch up withyou some time I will let you know if things have moved on when I get back

Hi Dougaldon
During our visit in summer 2007 we stayed in Cairo for a week and Luxor the second week. Waleed came to Luxor for us and took us round various shops over two days to choose light fittings, curtains, door handles, fridge and furniture. Enough for us to live in the apartment on our next visit which was last Easter when we got the rest of the essentials.
The living/dining room furniture along with the main bedroom furniture was bought from a shop at the southern end of Hurghada, near Egyptair office, probably about 20 minutes walk. Waleed now has his own furniture shop above HSBC bank opposit Marlin Inn. We fitted out the small bedroom from there at Easter.
During our easter visit we had to re-choose the light fittings and fridge (too big for kitchen). We got the fridge from an electrical shop in Downtown Hurghada (google earth co-ordinates 27 13 42 N 33 50 19 E){bus stop nearby}. We also got our tv and satellite box there (£80 and £40 each).
Waleed took us to Abu Ashara market {they have a website} (family/stadium branch) where we got cutlery, crockery, kettle, bedding and other kitchen essentials. They also sell tv's, microwaves, and other electrical items. I made a couple of visits there on my own, got minibus there and taxi back. There are also a few other large shops in that area.
We got sofa beds for the living room so our apartment can sleep 6 people.
Bringing a dvd player out with me at the end of the month and will be going back to Abu Ashara to get a microwave, more bedding and other items for the kitchen.

Hope this helps

Steve and Christine

Hi one and all.

William C here. I haven't posted here for a while - back earlier in the year after our first stay in our apartment in the B.R.
We have just been out for another 3 weeks and before leaving B.R. last week we were told by Waleed that, following a meeting he and Medhat had had with Magdi Afifi on Wednesday, that the 15,000LE maintenance fee now had to be paid by those using the apartments and Waleed wanted it there and then. We refused to do so on this occasion as there was no evidence that a proper bank account had been set up for these monies and there was no evidence to show that all the owners had been approached by letter or email to inform them of this fact. He also wanted money for the electricity and water we had used despite the fact that no (electricity) meter has been installed and there is no monitoring system yet set up for both utilities. (George, who lives there 24/7 365 had not been approached by management for either payment). As we suspected Waleed was trying to line his own pockets again, we said that we would be happy to pay on our next visit once a system had been set up to ensure equitable charging. (I should also point out that we had previously been told by Medhat that there was no charge for these utilities as compensation for the delay in the complex being finished.)

So be aware, those going over soon, that you may be asked for this amount - and it is the 15,000LE which, at the moment, costs more than the originally indicated £1,500.

Apparently, as the pools are up and running, and the rubbish is being removed from the bottom of the blocks, that constitutes the maintenance - oh, and the grass is being cut as well. Just don't follow the chap removing the rubbish from the bottom of the buildings to the back of the 'hotel' building where he is piling it up.

The majority of the sunbed mattresses were removed last week as, despite minimum use, they were in need of repair.

Also, the chap performing the role of Hotel manager - Ahmed - was sacked as he had been too outspoken on the lack of facilities and progress in providing them sufficient for people wanting to use the place as a hotel. One of the things he complained about was the cold pools and, as far as I am aware, there is yet no agreement to warm at least one and if there is to be one heated, then owners will probably have to pay.

Also Goma, the 'head' gateman died at the beginning of November.

Just before we left last week there seemed to be more people in suits wandering around than there were workers but have no idea why.

William
