Hi Alison

On a crazy work period again but saw your new pics just now. Hopefully he got the wrong block as ours should be 1 2 bed appt but I'll check! Things seem to be moving along quite well even if behind schedule (not a huge surprise). Were you reasonably happy with the quality of work? Looks a little ropey but that's partly to be expected when unfinished.

Iain

Hi Iain - we were reasonably happy taking into context what we paid. The tiles actually didnt look too bad. I imagine they will look alot better once they have had a good clean. We will keep what they have laid for the time being.
I was cheesed off that we were rushed so apologies for those that we couldnt get into their apartments. I have a few more pics to post but mostly exterior. Some we couldnt get into anyway. We arranged over 3 weeks ago to inspect the site. We were picked up at 5pm, arrived at Sierra about 5.20 and then he told us he had to be back in Naama for 6 to meet someone else!!! Wasnt impressed. I hate being rushed as I am one of those who takes everything in but Im afraid this time I couldnt. This was on the Thursday - our 2nd visit to the site and we just didnt have any time to get back again - plus I had a bad chest infection and suffered quite badly in the heat with it. Could hardly breath.
When we went on the Sunday there were so many workers on site and we literally couldnt get into our apartment. Paul described it as the last 10 seconds of 60 minute makeover! Again they mucked us about with picking us up and in the end it was Mostafa from Idea4furniture that picked us up and took us on site. We thought it was very unfair to ask him to show us to the apartments to take pictures - although he was happy to. At the end of the day he doesnt work for them.
Our phase was a bit of a mess on Sunday but they had cleared it up alot when we went back on Thurs and Paul was confident the pool and landscaping would be done within a month. Lyn and Ryans should not be too far off. There is finishing work to be done on the entrances and the garden and balcony of ours but shouldnt take too long. Overall we were pleased with ours and will snag it in October. furniture will be all fitted by 8th August and Im Mostafa will report and problems that he finds back to us.

Hi Dawn - thanks - a bad chest infection with non stop coughing and runny nose does not go too well in the heat!

The interior of ours is more or less done now. Just what I call odds and sods such as tiles need a damn good clean, the window in the bathroom needs to be fitted, the smoke alarms to be fitted and thats about it. Exterior wise the entrance to the block needs to be finished, our balcony area and railings need finishing and our garden needs landscaping. Paul noticed damage to our garden wall so that will need repairing. It is then over to Mostafa our furniture man who will fit the lights, extractors, air cons, water heater, kitchen and all the furniture. He has drawn up a contract for us and this will be completed by 8th August so not long. We are not due to go back until 7th October but knowing me as soon as I know all the furniture has been fitted I will be wanting to book the next available flight out to see it!

Hello there everyone

we've been back over a week now and had the same problem as Alison with our viewing. The guy from SRE was late picking us up and again wanted to be away after 15 minutes or so. We did manage to go into one or two apartments but don't ask me which they were coz again like Alison when you get on site it becomes a bit confusing. I found the best way was to go on my own which I did a couple of times. The workers are very accommodating and although it was a little difficult at times communicating I usually got to see what I asked for. I also spoke with a couple who are actually living on site. They've just about got sorted out although they were 8 months late with their handover and had to start fron scratch. Said they knocked down all their internal walls and rebuilt because it was not what they had agreed. Having said that it looks really well now. But don't let the last comments worry anyone. They seem to think that the work is catching up and that especially the last phase which I have bought into should be on time. Our unit has we think only just been started and I intend going back around Christmas time just to check on the progress, and make sure the lay out is what we want. I can also then arrange for furniture, kitchen etc and plan where air con units will go. This I'm told is important as you could end up with one of the compressors on your balcony!!!!
There are loads of stores opening up in and around the area Al Kahn and La Strada. At La Strada there is a furniture store and kitchen one, and oposite at the Oriental Resort, next to the HSBC there's a guy called Tarek who's selling all domestic appliances from kettles and toasters to LCD flat screen TV's and Air con units. Might be worth a call in for prices, he said he would be competetive.

Hi Jaytee - glad I wasnt the only one lol. Hope you had a great time. I have posted some info and pics in the furniture thread taken from Mostafas showroom in Nabq. dont know if you have seen them. We have gone with his package. It was very good quality and he is extremely helpful and accomadating. He is also fitting our safe into the wardrobe for us, getting a half size dishwasher and upgrading the tv for a wall mounted plasma one for a small additional upgrade charge.

Hi Alison

yeh we had a good time spent quite a bit looking around and contacting different people about things. Got in touch with a guy called Ali who's got a 'showroom' near to the Metro, Bassant Furniture I think, who said he could make furniture for us. Still waiting for quotes. Saw some of his work and it is very good. We'll probably have to wait until I go out again before we can get definite prices though. The Egyptians are not the quickest around, but then we're not in a great hurry at the moment.

Hi ours was £3900 for the 1 bed package ich included everything including air con, water heater, tv, fully fitted kitchen, breakfast bar etc. If you need to compare I have put a list of all what is included in the furniture thread. Also it included glasses, kettle, chopping board, knife block, heavy fry pan - dont think these were on the list.
Glad you had a good time - quite exhausting tho isnt it!!

Hi Alison - no problem - we really appreciate you taking ANY time to look at our appt and taking general photos - I'm sure you could have done without the hassle. Hopefully I can return the compliment when I go out if ever I get a couple of days off! Iain
