Default mattress

Hi James - SRE thought that I as taking their package and they wanted all the money for the furnishings at least 15 days before the handover to order. To be honest I cant see how they could order and install within 15 days. I saw one that was furnished by SRE last night and lets just say it was a half job. Their package doesnt come with mattresses or bedding either so you would need to arrange that as well.

What use is a bed without a mattress......i have just emailed SRE asking the question.....i also asked if we want to change our mind on the furniture package would we able to have our money back

Hi James - just been round to yours and cant get in as all locked up again a good sign. If yours is on the left handside as you go in the building then yes I would say it has been furnished as curtains are up if on the right then no - there arent any curtains up and there are no light fightings from what I could see through the window.

In another apartment all the furniture was stored in one and piled up so they clearly have all / some of it on site already.

Met a couple of English girls renting block 7 for a month and they are having some probs - the sockets were hanging off. The apartment they are renting has the SRE pack and they said there were no sharp knives so they have had to go and buy some along with saucepans. They said they also spent a day cleaning it! They are going to show me it later.

I remember asking about the mattresses and the bedding when we looked into the SRE package and were told no they dont come with the package.

Hi Chelle - neighbours who have got the package and no mattresses are going into Naama to SRE to get a copy of exactly what was included and they are now thinkin along the same lines of you. Didnt give Zeaid a nudge as our day out is 2mrow. He obviously responded to you when he recd it. Think this is their way only respond when they have news. I can understand as I am using Mostafas dongle and there is only a certain amount of GB / MB or whatever that they can use each month and thats why I cant upload vids and pics at the mo. I am only assuming this may be one of the reasons that they dont reply to every email as it uses up their monthly tariff???? I got cut off earlier as said over my limit??

Anyway been good tonight and stayed in again. xx

Hi all

Thanks for the info Queenie. My apartment is the one on the right, middle floor 17B2. I can see from your super photos that the one opposite has curtains so it looks like they havn't made much of a start yet on mine!

Queenie - I have transfered £2500 today, including the £1500 for maintenance and £1000 furniture installment. Im thinkin though that as I still owe another £2000 for the furniture I could transfer an extra £500, which would pay off the furniture and then pay the maintanance/ water/ elec at a later date when everythings complete. Only I have stated on my money transfer that its for maintenance and furniture! Dont no whether the agent would let me do this!

Chelle - I know from my contract for the furniture there is nothing in there to say mattressess and bedding is included in the price so Im now therefore presuming its an extra! Do you know where the best place is to get these from in Sharm?

Thanks for your help everyone.

James

Hi James Mostafa at Idea4furniture which is based next door can supply those for you. He gives you a choice of firmness and mine is really comfy - same for the pillows. Some mattresses out here can be like lying on concrete.

Yours is defo not furnished then if it is on the right.

Iain took the fab pics - I will upload mine with vids on Friday.

Default Iain's visit

Hi all, well back home and looking at the rain through the windows....
Had a great visit to Sharm and have just finished reading through the seven pages of posts since I left! – Queenie/Alison has answered most if not all, but I’ll just add my few comments as well.
I apologise in advance for what will be a longish post – but it’s the only way I’ll get it done.
Firstly it was great to meet Alison finally, Darren+family and others, it re-assured me that there’s a really good bunch of people going out there, involved in the forums and prepared to act like Egyptian friend (where you have a real commitment to go the extra mile for a friend – not just treating them as acquaintances)
Alison was, as usual working herself very hard to do what she could to help everybody else – she had a stern warning from me to remember to say no occasionally and think of herself a little – or she would have no holiday at all (Of course she won’t listen to me, but I tried LOL)
The site in general is looking good. Several have commented on the “back to front” building methods and at times you do wonder a bit, but builders the World over have their unique methods, and I think that the end quality means that their methods work.
Our example is a good case – you will see in pics of 22 that the living area looks like a bomb site and the rooms have no floor and no plaster. After my visit the electrical truncking and plumbing was all but finished and the next step is to plaster the walls and ceiling (a couple were done ages ago!) and then fill the floor cavity with sand and tile it – rather like a patio here. This should take just a few days (although we are in Ramadan now so work will be shorter and slower as it’s hard to work in that head without food and water) .
Very many of the appts we saw were very close to completion – some needed just plastering ad they would be finished – other were plastered and just has minor items that needed doing.
So , for example Robin and Jane in 23b1+2 – you appt is virtually finished and just needs a day or two. Our phase has windows in all blocks except ours, the pool has lovely green water in it checking for leaks, and then need the grass adding and pool area cleared up.
I had an upper and downer with the developer as had expected mine to be all but ready, I got upset, he got upset, but we sorted it out and are back to having good relations, in my opinion that’s good – being able to express your opinions fairly forcefully without total breakdown of communications!
During my visit I spent time with the site manager and site engineer and I couldn’t have been treated better – they are truly professional and worked with me to sort out any glitches or requests. I do believe that they are taking a genuine pride in the development and have thought through many issues not obvious to us.
An example was RATSyes those lovely little furry creatures that outnumber Londoners. Alison let out a blood curdling scream on my first evening visit – not a good sign – but was pointing to a small rat (actually Alsion will tell you it was “THIS BIG”) which had dared to run along her garden wall. (Aliosn I’ve got you back for the “sweating like a pig comment “LOL
Well yes, there are some rats about, but that was the only one I saw during the visit. We tackled the site engineer and he said yes, they were aware of a possible problem (lots of waste about in Egypt) and had a Rat program planned. I guess they will install the type of traps you see around all major hotels in London which there rats run through and are caught or poisoned. I would have been very concerned if he said there was no problem etc etc. The hotel stayed in had rat traps etc and I think that’s just normal.
Otherwise there are security guards in all zones during the day and a couple around at night just to keep out unwanted “guests” but there was no evidence of any problems at all.
Furniture. We have used Mostafa from Idea4furniture and all seems to be in order there. I’m sure there are other companies too, and more will appear (just be sure to get recommendations) .
Most things are available if you have the time you look around, but for most of us a pack professionally fitted is the way to go.
The electricity meter system looked good and we reckoned a one bed appt used about 50 piasters per hour when using the appliances – so using aircon etc 24 hours would cost about GB£8-10 a week. This is just a guide but we’ll know more as time goes on.
Water meters are at the back of back building with a clear digital read out and a lever tap to turn off the water.
All cookers are normally gas and run on gas bottles, you can get an electric hob though these cost a little more and I think probably cost more to run too.
There are phone points in all appts – not sure about getting a phone line if you want one.
WiFi will be available though this is not fully up and running yet.
Gardens for ground floor appts are raised up with a retaining wall. Little children would find this quite a drop down to the pool area and families with young children would need to look at this. The gardens have irrigation pipes to keep the watered.
Swimming Pools are pretty much one depth throughout the pool with no shallow end – I think they will be about 1.6 meters deep so non swimmers and children may not find them ideal.
I’m sure I’ve missed lots but wanted to post things whilst I could still remember!
Alison – correct me if I got any of this above wrong - please

Iain

Hi Ian and welcome back to the rain!

I'm the other way around - having just returned to Bahrain from the rain. The heat here is unbearable and the humidity is a killer. But the a/c is wonderful. Roll on winter I say!!!

Glad that your trip was a good one. You seem to have got a real feel for your new home in the sun. Sounds like it won't be long before it's finished and you'll be to-ing and fro-ing like Alison.
