Hi Lou makes you wonder. Luckily the flights booked for Oct and Dec were with Easyjet as they were much CHEAPER than XL. I do normally fly with XL though. It also affects medlife hotels as well. I dont know how this will affect other airlines flying to Egypt. It may be a good thing as more people will be booking their flights with the others flying out making them more stable!!???
I was surprised because nearly every flight I have flown on with XL have been more or less fully booked. I dont think it was right for them to take peoples money right up to midnight last night tho when they knew it was going to happen - affectively this is theft! Selling something you know isnt available or yours!

Very sad for those stranded and at the airports. Some have booked flights direct with them for over Xmas and paid with debit card so prob wont get any refund at all. If booked direct with them by cc those could be covered and would suggest contacting their banks. Anyone who has booked go straight to the travel agent you booked with to see if they can arrange alternatives as soon as possible before the queues are down the high ST and you cant get thru on the damn phones.

we got our contracts before contacting a lawyer and signed and returned them. I emailed a copy to Zeaid before we went over in May and he looked them over saying they were fine. I think the contracts are pretty standard so should be no problem. We met with Zeaid when we went over in May and handed over our copy before going to El Tor for the POA which his agent kept and gave to him also. We got a text from Zeaid in early August saying that everything was complete and paperwork ready for us when next in Sharm. I think everything should be OK and like all the others on the forum we've got nothing but praise for Zeaid.
Good luck
Jeff

Cheers Jeff, your email has made me feel much happier thanks, I couldn't find a bridge to jump of anyway I did have an Egyptian Friend look over the contracts some time ago to compare the English and Egyptian text, he said it matched. The only thing I will try and change "if possible" will be to add my daughters to the contracts as per the advice of others, worth a try.

Thanks
Craig

What do you guys think

I think it is probably sensible to book using a credit card rather than just a debit card - from what I understand those booking with debit card such as switch get nothing whereas those who booked with credit card can get their money back. _ maybe somebody can confirm that? I usually use a debit card but may change that now,

I know there is a charge for using a credit card but in this case it would be well spent.

Hi Iain, I can confirm that you are correct. I worked for an Internet based bank for several years and advised customers to use their credit card to make major purchases on a regular basis for this exact reason. Credit cards generally have integrated insurance whereas debit cards do not. A reputable credit card company will dispute transactions on your behalf. They generally credit your account with the funds whilst the dispute is going on, disputes can take up to 26 weeks to resolve.

Have had a reply from Tarek confirming that the prop was ready, however, it has not been configured as per the paperwork completed and signed by Colin , myself and Tarek from SRE back in January, and therefore waiting to hear how this is going to be resolved. No one seems that keen on coming forward with information and resolutions. How do you think we should handle this? I only ask as you seem to be very helpful and have built up good relationships with all concerned. Any help and advice would be gratefully received. Thank you. x Karen
Alison, Pleased to inform you that after acting on your advice, both Tareks have come good, all seems to be getting sorted and wont need to look for that bridge afterall......
Tarek from SRE, what can i say....... cant praise him enough for all that he has said and instructed. So, all being well may get out next month and clear up handover and sort out furniture, YIPPEE !!!!
Thank you.x

Hi you can also buy a travel insurance policy that will have a clause to cover you if an airline goes bust. More expensive though than normal policies.

I know a company called Karma that provide this cover up to £1000 per person and also included the accom as well. For a single trip the cost was only just over £13 and £18 inc legal expenses cover and you can also purchase Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance from Travel Agents but dont know how much this is.

Hi

If anybody out out at Sierra over the next couple of weeks I'd appreciate an update of progress on our appt (ground floor of building 22)

Main points are whether the floor is tiled, walls plastered and soil pipes etc at rear of building which were missing two weeks ago.

Pics would be good but even a couple of lines about what's going on would be great.

Iain
