Hi Peter Happy New Year to you. Yes it was unfortunate but there you go these things happen. We all love Egypt and it hasnt put her off the country. We took her and her brother to Cairo when we were in Sharm in June and she loved it. My son could not believe Cairo. Complete culture shock for him as that was his 1st visit to Egypt ( he is 18 ). Wait til I take them to Luxor and my taxi driver takes us to his for lunch. That will open their eyes and certainly make them appreciate what they have.

Hya guys,

I also heard lots of stories about harsh egyptian guys in Hurg.
Maybe because there are a lot of russian girls who like that kind of behaviour.

Anyway, Cleo you look like a strong woman knowing what you want what you like and what you don't. I hope these guys critisizing you here will leave you in piece finally.

And sorry to hear about your daughter's bad experience, gueenie40something. I hope she will be fine.

then what is next big thing in Egypt?
I have been to Marsa - great place indeed. I was looking at some options to buy there or Hurg but didnt do anything yet.

Any suggestions, guys?

Ted

Well I've told you of my daughters experiance now my turn. This will make you laugh.
On my last most recent trip to Sharm in Nov I took a female friend. We flagged down a taxi, as you do, to take us back to the hotel. After a minute he was looking in his mirror at me telling me I had beautiful eyes, then lips etc etc. Then a minute later he was declaring his undying love for me. At this point my friend was trying to get my fingers out of the back of my throat. We then decided to ignore him but had it all for the entire 10 min journey. We finally reached our hotel and when I slid along the seat to get out he asked me to perform extra curriculum activities on him. ARGHHH.
You did ask LOL

Peter,

And one my female friend was married by forse to one guy who worked in hotels reception.
at the registering she handled in her pasport to him. on departure he gave her some green paper said for memory.

later she showed that paper to an arab friend to translate. that was a wedding contract.
her signature (was fake, of course) but was confirmed by 2 witneses, there was court stamp, etc.

she paid 800 eur to a lawyer to get diworced.
and even now she is not sure whther that diworce was real or not.

she is never going back to egypt or any arab country at all.
end of story

Ted

Hi Queenie40something,

Firstly it is sad that your daughter had to experience things that she did.

I work as a Criminal Lawyer in the Uk so you can imagine the cases that I have dealt with in this country. Im worried that Hurghada is being potrayed as a trouble spot and other area such as Marsa Alam are being put across as angelic area possibly because people want to sell properties there.
Dealing with Marsa Alam there is nothing there at the moment and it would be interesting what will be said about it if it ever gets to the size of Hurghada ie it is clear that as an area grows so do the problems

This thread split into 2 and my first response was due to the suggestion by Cleopatra that people in Hurghada were rough. This was a general remark which I was concerned about as on the whole Hurghada is full of pleasant, polite people. Further to this other more experienced forum members made it quite clear that a lot of the service personnel are from other parts of Egypt in any event eg Cairo, Luxor.

Im glad you still love Egypt and not let the small minority of bad people in every country ruin it for you.

Regards

Westmids33

Hi Westmids - we still love Egypt. Wherever you go in the world you will find harassment. Luckily most of it can be dealt with swiftly.

That really is terrible and like the situation with Queenie's daughter it is hard to get over that - the experience stays with you for life. All I can tell you is that I have been to Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada and Sharm many times and have not heard of this type of harrassment; but I take your point, its awful but it could probably have happened in many other countries too.
