Default Metro - power cut - little story

.
Whilst in Hurghada recently I was shopping in the Metro in the Village road area and the lights were out but they were running everthing on batteries - so seemed Ok.

When I got to the till the batteries had run out and they could not take any money, lots of unhappy customers so they told peope that they could deliver and pay on delivery - nice idea - no mention of being charged for delivey - but they did not know when beacuse they needed the power back on first.

- 3 hours later, and in need of feeding so we went back to METRO and asked if we could have our shopping, but told that it was "on it's way", so back to the apartment to wait. An hour later it arrives and they will not release the food until we paid the delivery charge - not likely I say - so on the phone to the manager - he's no help (no concept of good customer service here) - so I had to pay the delivery charge - only then do I find out that it is such an extortionate cost - it was all of 40 pence (English) - almost a joke - and this is the standard charge.

So anybody know if they do on-line ordering yet !!!

Shame about the delay with delivery, but for 40p you can hardly complain really. Ofcourse 4LE is nothing when you're earning the english pound, but another story when you're earning egyptian! Internet shopping is massive in most western countries and definately the way forward. I suspect we'll be buying groceries in tablet form before it cops on in Egypt though

They do delivery as well.
And they opened a checkout for me so I didn't have to queue behind 1 person, and carried my heavy bags to the hospital junction where I could get a taxi (and he didn't linger for a tip). Next time I'll get the boab to receive the shopping delivery(4LE) while I have a beer and an egg mayo sandwich in the Winking Frog, 100 mtrs?away.
PS Weather FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooooo happy I'm here.

Default Fruit and Vegetables

This little lot just cost me LE31 from the shop in El Gouna (around GBP3.00). I am sure from the souk in Hurghada it would be much cheaper but I was wondering how much it would all cost in the UK now?!?

Don't know but I wish I could buy produce as fresh as that looks, and at that price, in Bahrain.

Nice post again G - also enjoyed the one about your trip - hope you are well.

Georgina,

When I was in the fruit and veg market last week everything seemed to cost 3le per kilo so I think it would probably have been less, if you can imagine!!!

Looks like a good spread for the money.

Bit surprised that El Gouna is this cheap - the little supermarkets are about same as Hurghada.
