Thanks sooo much all. I have tried to spray everywhere and got in tonight and there was just a tiny roach in the bathroom that was a lighter colour so seems to have worked. I think here the problem with the sand is that it gets into the water supply. You have to turn the taps on for a little while as the water runs brown for a couple of mins and apparently this brown water will be in your white wash. I thought of doing a dark wash 1st then the whites straight after cos the water should be quite clear by then. The Clorex is apparently what they put in the wash because of the brown water turning your whites a nasty colour. I havent got too many but the towels are a light yellow and I have white bras and shorts. Well bra straps are not white anyore!! Stick to handwashing them I think. Thanks sooo much for all the tips - I will be spraying everywhere tomorrow. I did spray the room before I left with fly spray and I am now picking up dead ones off my bed lol so done the trick and none buzzing in my ear tonight. It is things like this that we dont think about. BTW have been having lovely cuppa tea in morn and never checked kettle!!!! Will do 2mrow xxx

Default trouble in paradise

hi everyone

interesting to hear what forum members say about living in paradise and it reminds me of when i go to egypt those ants! i usually just walk away from them, but now that i will have my own place, what do i do, what will renters do about roaches ugh!! and ants, i dont want to come back to find the place taken over!

i will certainly re-read and take note of what the female forum members say, how come the men dont talk about this problem, is it not their problem too

My whites become pink/beige in Egypt after a wash. Surely there must be a fine filter available to fit the water inlet. You would think they would be fitted as standard in desert areas! good idea to do a dark wash first and not to buy pale clothes!! handwashing also rendered my white things beige!!as for instructions for the washing machine, have you tried 'googling' for them?

Good idea Linda will try google. My sheets and duvets are also light but dont know if this Clorox stuff is ok to use with those and the towels or whether it is just meant to be used for whites. All part of the learning process I suppose xx

I bought some dye catcher sheets from Aldi that I use with white and mixed washes. They collect the dirt aswell as dye it seems, and went grey in the first white wash. So I'm going to bring the few I have left and try that. X

Your welcome

All - I saw my 1st ever Egyptian spider today and it was one of those moments where you are kicking your self for not having your camera to video it. This flying insect - dont know what it was but was smaller than the spider - was wrestling on the ground with it. Well it must have kept stinging it and after putting up a fight for about 5 mins the spider was dead. The insect then started dragging it off - I assume to a nest to be eaten. Never ever seen anything like it.

mmmmm Think you better take more water with it Alison .... You'll be telling us the cockroach ate the rat next ... LOL

Have you thought of popping in to one of the hotels whilst you're there and asking them how they manage to keep their towels and linen so white? Just a thought as we've stayed in a few hotels and never come across a yellow/grey towel.
