Default Residence in Portugal how to register?
When we move to the Algarve in about a year's time, do we have a choice about whether we take up residency? If we have a choice, are there any advantages or disadvantages? If we decide to go ahead, how do we register? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Default Residence in Portugal how to register?
As it stands at the moment, you have to take up Portuguese residency if you are in the country more than 3 months/91 days. There is no choice.

However, Portugal is breaking an EU directive (haven't got the number to hand at the moment...but do have it somewhere) regarding free movement in Europe, so have been told they must scrap it. I have heard it is due to be scrapped, but this being Portugal, no one seems to know, if they will abide by this and, if so, when.
