How can I edit Profile Options?

I am trying to edit profile options in the User CP so that I can get instant email notification by default to not have to select it everytime i make a post. But I get this error:

greg, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Also wondering how I can add a signature...

no! just to your private message then you will find all you information together email and user if you want to change it..
