Default But where are the best areas to move?

Hello all please could you help me. Me, my husband and my daughter are currently in the process of selling our UK home to make a perm move to Spain. we are finding it hard to find the right place as we have made many trips (off our own backs) and we found an area called villa martin south of torrevieja and thought this was a nice place, but as we found out the surrounding areas near torrevieja are riddled with crime in the expat large urbanizations. so we are worried that we wont find a place in time before we become homeless in the uk. So any advice of nice areas for a young family would be greatly welcome. Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks
Kai

Are you planning to work out here, and if so do you speak Spanish? I think that must be the prime consideration, we moved here 6 weeks ago, I commute every other week back to the UK, however my wife works in Gibraltar where there is substantial amounts of work available, plus you get paid in ?'s and live in Euro's. Sot it may be worth considering.
Thanks
Camden

Have a look round Muro D'Alcoi; I live close-by in Castello De Rugat, there are excellent schools and infrastructure, a large English population, and very good connections - Alicante and Valencia airports are both no more than 80 minutes drive away, Blue-Flag beaches 40 minutes away in Gandia, and Muro itself is a vibrant town with lots to do. But getting your head round the language is a must - the locals will soon let you know if they think you're not coming up to speed quick enough, especially as there are free language courses run by the local Ajuntament. Best of luck with your move.

Default perfect area to settle

Hi Kai,

I have just seen your message and thought I would reply. We live in an area called Turre near Mojacar in the provence of Almeria. Turre is a lovely spanish town with all amenities with a well balanced expat community. Our children have been born and raised here and we have all integrated well. A brand new school was opened in Sept 2008 and the new nursery has just opened also. We are actually leaving spain this year to go to NZ and are selling our house. Visit spanish country houses net to get an overall idea of the area. My husband has lived here for 22years now and we have been very happy with the lifestyle, schooling, medical care and so on. We have seen other parts of Spain and we still consider ourselves bery lucky to have lived in such a beautiful area which is low in crime etc. etc.

Good luck.

Ces.

I would agree with Ces that Almeria between Aguilas and Mojacar is very nice, quiet and they say that it is one of the lowest crime areas in Spain
Many have relocated here and are enjoying themselves
Turre is quite nice and there are lots of choice of properties

But most of the area in not just expats although there is a large expat community

Buyers with finance just now are in a very good position
Perhaps you can get in touch and tell me what you are looking for and your budget
The more inland you are the better and for example just near Huercal Overa [ which has all the facilities you require for a family] 2 bed villas on good size plots start from circa 140.000 € ..all fully legal and well built
This is where I will be wintering in due course
In Turre you can probably pick up a nice 3 bed villa on a 400 m2 plot for circa 250.000 € perhaps a bit less but you have to balance price with quality
In San Juan de Los Terreros I saw last week a well built ready now villa with 3 beds, 8 x 4 pool on 300 m 2 plot on offer now at 265.000 € but you would probaly get it for say circa 238.000 € [ builder has all ready reduced the asking price to attract a sale]

Gandia is part of the Safor area which is still an attractive region with millions of orange groves, beautiful sand beaches and untamed mountain ranges. Here you have access to the city of Valencia, one of the most exiting cities in the world, and an easy drive to Benidorm if you feel the need for a bit of English. Gandia itself is a lovely tradional Spanish town and the surrounds have not been spoilt by overdevelopement. The schools in the region are excellent, as is shopping, hospital care and ,of course, the weather. At the moment house prices have reached rock bottom and I do not feel they will drop any further in this area, because of the continual influx of people coming here to live. Do not buy to start with, rent for a year and get a feel for the place and see how the kids settle in to school. If you need any help to find rental property give me a shout as I have one coming free in April or I can put you in touch with a good, honest agent, and do not worry, you will love it here.

Dear all,

there are plenty of places available at real knock down prices at the moment in Spain. Land prices are dropping all the time. This year will see them reduce like 80s prices especially away from the coast.

Lots of good deals in Almeria just now...between Aguilas and Mojacar
Relatively quiet location and perhaps the best weather in Southern Europe

Price are also relatively cheap...get a 4 bed villa for 185.000 € whereas in say CDS you get an apartment.....and of course some 3 Bed & 2 bed [ from 139.000 €] are even cheaper

Mind you I do like the area and perhaps a bit biased as I have a winter home here...near Huercal Overa

Worth taking a trip to have a look , if you are a life styel buyer wanting to buy in 2009

I lived just outside villamartin in an area called La Florida and i found it a bit like little england, people wanting all the things they get back home, i lasted 2 months and then moved to Torrevieja itself and found and still do, the way of life must more relaxed. So i would suggest not Villamartin and try more closer to Torrevieja
