Default Income tax ?for half of the year

Over the coming years I will be working half the year in Kuwait (no income tax). I am moving to Spain from another EU country (I am a EU citizen). In order to lose my residence and obligation to pay tax in my native country I am planning to become resident in Spain.

Is it possible to become a resident but still be exempt from tax in Spain since I spend less than half the year there?

In order to obtain my "residencia" in Spain, will I need to show an income even if I am a EU citizen?

One option would be to keep my income offshore and not declare any income in Spain, but not having any income would probably create more problems as far as getting services for gas, phone etc. Plus that if I will be considered tax liable on my foreign income, I might get the "hacienda" chasing me...

Does anyone have any hints or tips?

Many thanks!
armando

I think unfortunately this is a case of "you can't have it both ways" .
Theoretically if you spend 180 days in Spain then you are a tax resident anyway. If you are there for less than that time then you are classed as a visitpr unless you register your residencia.

I have heard of people moving there and not having to show an income so it doesn't seem to be a requirement.

Your income, if you are a resident in Spain, is declarable wherever it is, even if it is offshore. The wealth tax applies to worldwide assets of any kind at a rate of 0.5%

You don't say where your native country is, but if it is the UK then you will probably find taxes in Spain are higher than there.

Its a complicated subject because of your individual situation, and I suggest that you get in touch with a Spanish tax expert for the most beneficial solution. Do a search for Gestoria in the area you are thinking of settling in, or ask for recommendations on here
Thanks
