The news is not good.
In LOS, supply exceeds demand for English teachers by the length of the field. In addition, you require the appropriate 'work permit' visa & associated documentation from your prospective employer. There are ample websites alluding to this situation eg Thaivisa??? & ajarn??? (ajahn/ajarn is the Thai word for teacher). Regarding property, as a foreigner, you cannot buy land in your name unless you front with USD1m first + limitations & restrictions. Some people incorporate with a view to overcoming this. Perilous? Refer again to Thaivisa. Alternatively, you may place the ownership of the land in the name of a Thai National & obtain a 30 year renewable lease. Would you do this in your home country? Maybe you should consider renting if you need land.
Working as a secretary, it is highly likely that the occupation is 'excluded' to protect the jobs of the locals.
The dog! I have no knowledge re quarantine regulations but as LOS is primarily a Buddhist country, the dog is a fair chance (after a few months in quarantine)!

Good to know. I am thinking of buying some property (condo preferably) in a good area in Bangkok - near mass transport system. My sole objective at this point is investment. I need to know if the properties can be readily rented and importantly, how do I know if I am getting the best buy - even before we check out other things. What kind of return can be expected in terms of percent.

I should be in Bangkok in about a month but would like to do as much homework as possible before that.

Hello Lukas

I have been looking at BKK properties. I have been approached many times by this one company because I went to one of their property launch in Singapore, but the area never seems to be too great! I'd love to be able to consult with someone local. Is the current politicial situation pulling price down right????

Currently there is an oversupply of condos in Bangkok so unless you buy a premier property I think there's a dimished chance of renting it out.
