Default Irishman arrested in real estate fraud saga

An Irishman Kevin Gordon O' Klein was arrested and taken into custody yesterday, the Doğan news agency reported. He is the partner of Turkish couple Kubilay Coşkun Atmaca (30) and Hande Bakkal (40) accused of defrauding foreigners with fake deeds for property with O' Klein acting as mediator. The police search for the Turkish couple is still ongoing.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE,
TURKİSH DEEDS(TAPU)ARE ONLY İSSUED TO YOU,ONCE YOU HAVE RECİEVED MİLARTY CLEARANCE,NOT BEFORE,!
THEN YOU GO TO THE DEEDS(TAPU) OFFİCE,YOU WİLL HAVE A PASSPORT PİCTURE ON THE TOP RİGHT HAND SİDE OF YOUR (TAPU)DEEDS,OF YOUR SELF AND ANY ONE ELSE,İE YOUR HUSBAND WİFE ETC,

Should you believe you have seen or been offered a fakeTurkish(deeds) tapu, please pm me,

This my opinion, any one who defrauds foreigner's and is found guilty,no matter what country, deserves 10 years minimum,

Default Altinkum and Bodrum

I have read that these operators worked in Bodrum prior to Altinkum.....

All their victims fell short because they did not use a solicitor...the clients relied on the "fact" that they seemed like decent people....lesson here.....only buy and sell through licenced estate agencies and always use a solicitor...

Thought I'd drop a few tips about ensuring buyers do not fall foul to anything like this scam:
1) Always buy through a licenced estate agency.

2) Just because an agent writes "licenced estate agent" on their website or office window, it doesn't mean they are....ask to see certification (it should be displayed on office wall and shows a photograph of the individual who is qualified as an estate agent) and ask to see tax office registration (it should also be displayed on office wall - it's called Vergi Levhasi).

3) When in the estate agency, deal with the certified estate agent.(only Turkish citizens can be qualified estate agents) does not speak fluent English and you may prefer to deal with the native English speaker but ensure that everything the native English speaker tells you, is verified by the qualified estate agent.....as the English speaking worker is not responsible for any lies or misleading embellishments - the licenced estate agent is...

4) Always use a solicitor with a translator attached to his/her office.

5) Do not use the same solicitor as the estate agent. Ask the estate agent to find you your own solicitor or find your own.

Hope these tips help to re-assure buyers in Turkey. If a buyer follows this advice, they will not become victims of any scams....

Turkey Real Estate law requires non-Turkish citizens to apply to the Military authorities for permission to purchase a homes in Turkey. This procedure checks if the property you are buying is outside a Military Zone or not. They will also carry out a character check.

Your Tapu(deeds) can NOT, be issued before this Military permission is granted,

Can I ask a question about deeds please. I'm not worried I am being defrauded I'm just interested in the timings of deeds, checks, title, mortgage.

We will complete on a new build property 31/7 (final cash payment on completion). I then would like to raise a small mortgage on it.

However, the agent tells me I wont get title for 2 months after. I'm assuming without this I cant get a mortgage?

What is the process and when will the property be mortgagable ?

Many thanks.
