Default Buying property in Calis - urgent advice needed

My wife and I have visited Turkey many times and have recently decided to buy a property in Turkey. Recently we were on holiday in Fethiye, and after a friend learned of this he put us onto a local property agent. The agent showed us round 9 different properties in the area and we found a fantastic property in nearby calis on the market in the region of 70,000 UK pounds.

We got carried away with the whole thing and ended up putting down a £1000 to take the house off the market. A contract was drawn up, and power of attorney was handed over to the property agent to act on our behalf. This power of attornet agreement was read to us at the local notary by a legal translator. Things were done quickly to save time we were told, as this was near to the end of our holiday.

Since then we have done some research on the internet (I know we should have done the research first) and there are a few things that concern me.

First of all, the contract is very brief and doesnt contain details as to how the money will change hands, although we opened a bank account in Turkey and have been assigned a tax number.

Also we asked what sort of payment agreements were normal, and on the contract is written to pay £10K within two weeks, £46K after another 3 weeks, and the remaining balance upon the deed of transfer after the army has granted permission for the sale. It is also written in that if the army does not grant permission we will recieve back all monies we have paid.

What I am really concerned about is paying out so much money before the deed transfer. I have looked on many web sites since, and the norm seems to be £1000 up front as we have done, followed by 10% or so within 30 days, and the remainder to be paid in full once the deed transfer takes place. They all advise interim payments to be kept to a minimum.

Also there is no solicitor involved, and to be perfectly honest we are not going to pay out another penny until we are a lot more confident than we are now.

Please can anyone offer us some advice. I feel that I should contact an independant English speaking Solicitor in Turkey and see if they can get the contract changed. Is this possible?

Thank you
