Default Living in Sharjah

Hi ,

I will be working in Sharjah and originally thought it would be a good idea to move to Dubai and commute (I would be going the opposite way to everyone else!). I didn't realize how much more expensive accommodation is between Dubai and Sharjah, it really is quite significant. I look on the map and see that there is only a few miles between the two cities and would presume that a taxi from Dubai to Sharjah would not be that expensive (anyone got an idea?). The difference in cost would mean a 1 bedroom flat or a large two bedroom an apartment. I can only guess the reason in price difference is the difference in culture between the two emirates. I know that Sharjah is a dry city, which is fine with me as I could go to Dubai for my drinks. but I am a bit dubious of how the culture is out there with western ex pats. I am a white male and doubt that I would have any issues but how is the city on females, especially ones that are not married. I would be having visits from my girlfriend and various other female friends over the coming year (all up for a free holiday) and am slightly concerned on how this would be viewed. The last thing I want to do is to break any cultural tabboos out there.

Any views and experiences with living in Sharjah, especially from the female perspective would be gratefully received.
Thanks
kameron

Default Living in Sharjah

Hello

I think it's the best option for u to live in sharjah, than in Dubai, if ur working in Sharjah.
Why people live in sharjah? because rents were cheaper than Dubai. But in sharjah in some area Water is a BIG problem (check with the property-Dealear)
Sharjah is DRY city? yes it is. But don?t worry Dubai is ur neighbour, but problem starts here. When in Weekends u want to go to Dubai, All the roads of Sharjah towards Dubai are totally JAM-packed, after 7pm to 11pm.
Why don?t u try Pepsi-cola Area (Behind Old Oasis Center) The Area is Arab dominated, But don?t worry They respect others and they Keep to them selves they will not disturb u, until u disturb them. Don?t know about the women issue in sharjah but Dubai is very Modern in this.
There is no problem At all for Women, they r allowed to go freely any where any time, and unlike Saudi they can drive cars.

Have a nice day
Thanks
santiago
