| Morocco's Flipside: Agadir |
|
Agadir is more diverse than any other city in Morocco. It was built next to a catastrophe. 15,000 lives were lost during the 1961 earthquake. Even so, their architecture and culture is unlike any other country. Agadir was a favorite destination and continued to be so. This is because of the tourists that come and go, which made the city's streets wide. Hotels were put up near the city and the beach. Other people think that there is nothing special that is happening in Agadir, others are actually thinking otherwise. The streets of Agadir are very attractive and lively. This is why more people visit the region year after year. Agadir: The Modern CityAfter you have finished visiting Morocco and the Sahara, you might want to take a break from it all and visit Agadir so as to have a taste of modern civilization. Agadir is a European and British inspired resort town with nice beaches and a diverse choice of cuisine, not to mention an exciting nightlife. Agadir is totally different from other Moroccan Cities. It is far more modern and civilized than the country itself. If you are tired of eating Moroccan food and the standards of living in Morocco, you might want to visit Agadir which is the tourist capital of Morocco. You can enjoy a plateful of Italian cuisine with lots of tomato sauce. The food in Agadir is simply amazing. So try and visit Agadir for a breath taking experience. Driving to Agadir, you can see a lot of mountains that are covered in bushes and full of Argane trees which were occupied by the well renowned climbing goats of Agadir. They do actually "climb" these trees to eat those tender greens and leaves. This tree also produces the famous oil that Moroccans are famous for. These oils are produced by the nuts that grow on them. In fact, they are more considered as an aphrodisiac. The law states that the nuts that have fallen from the trees are the only ones allowed to be used in order to make oil. The Atlantic seashore is very beautiful. There are various places to set camp in, especially in the various seaside resorts. The coast is populated by plenty of cars from Britain and Northern Europe. At the north end of town, you can make your way through the fish port when entering Agadir. This is where the local fishery is based. There is an abundance of restaurants and fish stalls by the road selling fresh seafood. Agadir is so clean and very modern. The town was rebuilt from the ground up after the 1960 earthquake. The place is populated with restaurants and beach resorts. All the shops, banks, restaurants, and travel agents can be found downtown. You can look for a cheap apartment for a bargain price. There are plenty of apartments that are located nicely, only a few stones throw away from the beach. The flats are inspired by a modern Kasbah style. The views are very picturesque and look very well designed. You can find a lot of shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. You can find shops that sell a small or large selection with a variety of alcohol. One thing that makes Agadir unique is that you can bargain with the store keepers. Bargaining is hereditary to them. This is because all of them seem to be doing it. You can go and see which item you like, and you can bargain for the price if you like it enough. In Agadir, when you ask how much the price is, you can then bargain for something that is reasonably low. After this, you can decide not to go for it so that they will keep bugging you and give you a sob story about their lives. This is their tactic so that you will feel sorry for them and buy the item that they are selling. Being in Agadir, you should enjoy the clear skies, the beach, and the hot weather. When celebrating a holiday such as the "festival of Sacrifice", they slaughter lots of lambs and save the hinds to male into rugs and eat lots of kefta. There are plenty of towns to visit to when in Agadir, like Taroudant, Ouarzazate and Zagora. Agadir may not be all that stunning, but as soon as you're down on the beach, enjoying the city will be very easy for everyone. After all, the beach is all about relaxing! The beaches are simply amazing. The place is really pleasant because of the Atlantic breeze. The beach is clean, long and wide. The only negative aspect of Agadir is the undercurrent, which can be very strong and very dangerous. Aside from this, the weather can be very horridly low during winter. For other people, Agadir is too modern. But others think that it is an open and beautiful change of scenery compared to the typical cities found all around Morocco: where winding streets direct you past Arabic houses. Here is a thorough explanation on why Agadir is very different. After the earth quake that took place on 1961, plans of rebuilding the city took place with a twist of European ideas. One tourist attraction in Agadir that may come as a surprise to you is their fish market. The reason is simple: Because of the lack of typical tourist attractions in Agadir, the tour operators threw in the fish market as a tourist attraction with groupers that has an impressive sizes and vitality. Agadir is an important fish city, serving both European and African markets. Outside West Africa, the fisheries are very rich but there are a variety of fish that is going extinct especially the sardines due to the threat of high tech vessels from the European Union. 1960 Earthquake and After ShockAgadir saw the annihilation of the century during the earthquake of 1960 and Agadir moved its centre some kilometers south, away from the hazardous epicenter. There is a memorial park that is placed on the old town centre with plenty of trees and flowers. The area is not really a place for pleasure, there are many lives of Agadir's residents who have lots of memories buried under the soil. The worst sight in Agadir might be the Kasbah. There is nothing to attract anyone's eyes except from parts of the walls and the gate but still there are loads of tourists coming to look at the Kasbah. One great thing to find up here is the great view over Agadir. Before viewing this, you must ascend by foot for 20 minutes or climb 3 minutes by car but it is definitely worth every minute. The view is breathtaking. Tips while in AgadirAgadir is a place on its own, especially because it is a resort town that's been tailor suited for British and European holiday makers. The place has lots of nice beaches, restaurants and quaint hotels and nice weather. So, when you are on your way to Morocco, be sure and stop by Agadir. This is a nice and affordable place to go to for a pleasurable trip. Tourists visit Agadir for the resorts. They have the best in the world. The place might be packed with tourists. The Europeans adore Agadir so much that they spend their vacations here. If you want a change in scenery, try taking a trip downtown and try out some local cuisine. The only site which signifies the history in Agadir is the town Kasbah. You can have a great outlook of the city. Next is the fishing port: you can buy a cheap and fresh seafood meal here. Agadir has a variety of palatable cuisine. Unfortunately, the class does differ a bit. The nightlife is nice with some European inspired restaurants along the strip. The bistros play lively music. One can never be hungry while in Agadir. This is because there is a lot of food to choose from and places to visit. Tourists are never lacking for shops to go to, when in Agadir. The shopkeepers are very insistent, and prices are overhead. This may be one point why it’s not such a great idea to shop here. Uniprix is simply the most awesome locale to shop for inexpensive handicrafts, some groceries and alcohol. If you are into books, there is a bookshop nearby called Crown English Bookshop. Thanks to package tourism, there is a higher standard of accommodation in Agadir. When you are planning to have a long stay here, you can call the offices of Holland International. Their people can help you check-in in their hotels. Hotels in Agadir are near the resorts and beaches. Taxis are cheap and when you need to go to the other section Agadir. You can ride a taxi and visit the Kasbah and take pleasure in the picturesque view. |
