Thalang - The Original Center of Phuket

The province of Phuket, Thailand, has lots to offer its visitors, with culturally and historically rich cities that teem with the vibrant atmosphere of a city that successfully merges the past and the present, along with its dynamic culture. Thalang, originally the center and capital of the province, has the same things to offer to people coming into the city, and since it’s now classified as a district of Phuket, it’s still a nice place to stay in. It’s a unique place and as such, there’s a lot to discover when you get to know Thalang.

Geography and Climate

Thalang occupies around half of its island, and there are boundaries to Kathu and Mueang Phuket on its southern side. To the north, beyond the Pak Prah Strait, the Phang Nga province awaits. There are hilly areas in the district of Thalang, and part of it is designated as a protected zone, around twenty square kilometers of rainforest. As for the district itself, it is divided into sub districts, having their own administrative governments. The district with the highest number of inhabitants would be Thep Krasatti, located at the very center, with around nineteen thousand inhabitants. The weather patterns here are much like the rest of Thailand, that is, tropical. Monsoons arrive from time to time in this city.

Touring Thalang

There are lots of places to go to when in Thalang, and you’ll never be bored with what the places in the area as you go and learn to have a new appreciation for the place. The wildlife in the district is held in high regard by the locals, and you’ll find Sirinat National Park, a ninety square km area that not only serves as a park but also as a national reserve, with turtles laying their eggs on the beach. For tourists and holiday goers, there are nice beaches in the park, totaling around thirteen kilometers of sandy strip. There is also a mangrove forest in the district of Thalang, three hundred acres worth of mangroves on the northern tip of the island, and you’ll get to see the natural habitat of some of Thailand’s most interesting wildlife.

Aside from natural wonders in Thalang, there are also places both historically and culturally significant in the district as well as the whole of Thailand. The monument of the two heroines, put up in 1966 in honor of the two women who successfully defended Thalang from invading Burmese forces, is found in the city. Along with that is the Thalang national museum located near the monument of the two heroines, just around two hundred meters from the site. There are lots of exhibits onsite, housed in two buildings and showing the historical and cultural background of Thalang and Thailand in general from prehistoric times, and onwards into the present day. Lots of artifacts and displays show the historical perspective of the city, showing the influence of different cultures on Phuket’s local traditions and demographics.

Getting To and Around Thalang

Phuket international airport is the main means of travel going to and from Phuket Island, and it’s located in Thalang district. There has been a rise of tourists coming into Phuket for their vacations, and now the airport handles the second highest number of people after Bangkok. There are lots of international carriers that have their flights stopping by Phuket International, going even as far as Sydney, with Jetstar Airways operating in the airport. Once you’re in the city, however, getting around Thalang is quite easy. There are local buses and taxis that ply their routes crisscrossing the city. Expenses in getting around, even with taxis, aren’t that expensive compared to similar services in western nations.

Investing in Properties in Thalang

The Asian financial crisis that rocked the whole continent more than ten years ago is now over and the market in properties in Thalang have come to age in their maturity, being ripe for the picking when it comes to investing in these properties. Before the financial crisis, the price of an average condominium property had stayed at the range of fifty two thousand baht per square meter, which is quite a lot, but just right for a city dwelling. Now, it’s at eighty one thousand per square meter, and still steadily rising as well. Ten years after, the market has been on the path to recovery and things look good if you invest in properties in Thalang for yourself or for profit.

The property developments in Thalang are now as equally varied as the buyers themselves, and you can have your pick of property, ranging from single houses in developed residential communities, to full luxury villas, multiple bedroom accommodations, and several luxurious amenities to suit your needs. One of the great things about considering buying properties in this district is that it’s still under the jurisdiction of Bangkok Bank, which can mortgage up to seventy percent of the appraised amount, and they accept multiple currency payments, and have packages going up to twenty years. Investing in a property that’s not in your home country has now become easier, especially in Thailand that has just recently eased up on its policies regarding offshore funds for its property markets.

Properties can meet your needs whether it’s a modest two hundred square meter house or a full blown villa covering several acres. It’s just dependent on your budget, and when you can afford multiple properties, it would be best to keep one as an investment to resell later when the value rises up, because prices for properties balloon quickly, and new developments can increase the value of your land by over twenty percent, quite an increase in a short time compared to just letting the bank handle your funds for you. Thalang has it all, from multiple beaches, excellent access to other parts of the country, and it’s rising as a top tourist destination, and as people discover its secret, more and more will want to put their investments in with Thalang real estates.

Newsflash

According to Arab historians, the origin of Meknes dates back to the Roman Period. It is thought that Meknes might be a forward post for the Roman city, Volubilis. Etched in every corner of Meknes are unique arts and crafts, lively markets, incorporated neighborhoods, intricate gardens, enormous gates, colossal walls, and great monuments that are an attestation to the History of Meknes. In 1996 Meknes was classified as a World heritage site for the edification and pleasure of humanity.

Meknes is the Versailles of Morocco, unfortunately the majestic design of the Royal Palace for the sultan Moulay Ismail was left unfinished. Today the city is the center of trading and producing citrus, cereal crops, wine and olives.

The ancient city is not as well maintained as the others found in Morocco, but the royal palace encompasses most of it. A tyrant in many words, the Sultan Moulay Ismail who ruled for 55 years during the 1700 commissioned the building of a massive royal palace. Despite his apparent penchant for huge undertakings in terms of building, Ismail never achieved his desire of making Meknes an Imperial city to beckon awe and inspiration. Meknes has always had this sense of emptiness that not even the recently constructed French city can overcome.
