First 'accurate' real estate index for Dubai shows property prices increased 0.7% in the final quarter of 2009

Dubai property prices rose 0.7% in the final quarter of 2009, compared to the previous quarter, according to new research.

The figures from the new Sales Price Index for Dubai (SPID), which has been launched by REIDIN.com in partnership with the Real Estate Regulatory Agency and Dubai Land Department, is regarded as the emirate's first accurate property index that will be a benchmark for the industry.

Dubai property prices could fall another 30% as banks become more aggressive in pursuing repossessions

Property prices in Dubai could fall another 30 % from current levels and up to 150,000 homes could be lying empty by the end of 2011, according to analysts.

With prices in some locations down by up to 50%, the latest forecast from UBS is a blow to the emirate's property market. It also comes as it has been reported that one of Dubai's iconic developments, Palm Jumeirah, has seen its first re-possession.

Legal developments set to boost overseas property ownership in Gulf region

The ruler of Dubai has announced a ceiling for rents in 2010 in a bid to stabilise the emirate's beleaguered property market.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued a decree setting the maximum allowed increase in property rents based on the most recent Real Estate Regulatory Authority's (RERA) price index.
