UK property market still seeing price growth but outlook is muted, latest reports show

Property prices in the UK have risen by 10% since the market bottom in April 2009 but the rate of growth is slowing, according to the latest reports to be published.

The average price of a house rose 0.6% in January and is now £169,777 compared with £154,490 last April, according to Halifax House Price index. The 10% increase follows a 2% decline between August 2007 and April 2009.

Buying a property regarded as more stressful than having a child or starting a new job, survey shows

Buying a property in the UK is rated as more stressful than having a child or starting a new job and it doesn't get any better the more you do it, according to research.

One in four homeowners, some 24%, said buying a house was the most stressful experience of their lives, followed by starting a new job, 14%, having a child, 13%, and getting married, 9%. And 41% of second time buyers said buying their second home was just as or even more stressful than buying their first.

Expert predict capital gains tax rise soon that could impact on UK property investors wishing to sell capital gains tax impact

Property investors considering disposing of their investment through a gift or transfer to successors or by sale to reduce borrowings in the expectation of increasing interest rates may only have a small window to do so as experts predict capital gains tax will rise soon.

An increase in the current rate of CGT of 18% is considered inevitable. As Government borrowings are expected to top £180 billion for the current financial year an incoming Government, of any colour, is going to have to look at ways of increasing revenue and decreasing expenditure. The latter is limited by political acceptability and so increasing revenue is inevitable, according to Savills.

Property lending in the UK surged in December, latest figures show

Property lending in the UK surged in December, latest figures show

Property buyers in the UK rushed to complete before the end of last year to beat the end of the stamp duty holiday, it is claimed.

The fact that gross mortgage lending surged to reach an estimated £13.7 billion in December, a 14% rise from £12.1 billion in November, shows that they were eager to avoid paying extra tax if they had completed after January 01.
