Most real estate markets in the US are reeling from the latest figures that show house sales plummeted in July but the residential market in New York is bucking the national trend.
With mortgage rates and property prices at historic lows, the city’s more affluent residents are cashing in to buy at bargain prices, according to agents who are reporting a surge in activity in private home sales in recent months.

Five state real estate associations along the US Gulf Coast are to receive a total of $60 million from BP for damages related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The associations in Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas have been in negotiations with Kenneth Feinberg, administrator of the new Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) handling the BP oil spill fund.

Property in the US is close to a record high in terms of affordability due to low mortgage interest rates and stable prices, it is claimed.
The latest survey from the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo shows that 72.3% of all new and existing homes sold in the second quarter of 2010 were affordable to families earning the national median income of $64,400.

Residential property sales in the US have yet to hit the trough of the recession and prices are likely to keep falling before stabilizing in 2012, according to analysts.
Although new homes sales did increase 24% from May to June, at 330,000 it was the second lowest number recorded since 1963, the latest monthly market report from Capital Economics shows.
